Action Figure Review: Cowboypool from Marvel Legends Series: Deadpool & Wolverine by Hasbro

I've been a sucker for Deadpool figures ever since I was a kid and received the original Toy Biz Deadpool figure for Christmas in 1992. I'm not snapping up every figure from Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool & Wolverine line but there are definitely a couple that have really intrigued me. I recently received Cowboypool and X-23 as gifts and I'm pretty excited to have them. Cowboypool is a cowboy themed Deadpool; what's cooler than that? Voiced by Matthew McConaughey in the movie, Cowboypool is part of the Deadpool Corp that was formerly banished to the void. Need some more Deadpool figures to battle your standard Deadpool and Wolverine? Here's another one! Let's check out Cowboypool after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 6 1/4ths inches

Articulation: Swivel/hinge ankles, double hinged knees, swivel thighs, ball-jointed hips, balljointed abdomen, swivel/hinge shoulders, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, and a barbell jointed head.

Accessories: 6 swappable hands, 2 revolvers, 1 "spinning" revolver, 2 wrist bands, and bandanna.

Original Retail Price: $28 dollars

Comparison:

* Here's a quick look at Cowboypool (left) and the standard Deadpool and Wolverine version of Deadpool. Cowboypool has a lot more maroon and less black than the standard Deadpool.

The Positives:

* So, what exactly is Cowboypool? Why, it's a version of Wade Wilson decked out in cowboy attire. It's not the Deadpool from the film, though; this is a variant Deadpool. He's still sporting a red and black costume but this costume has a western look to it. It feels like a Deadpool costume and not just Deadpool wearing cowboy clothes. You might look at it initially and think that Hasbro left a lot unpainted but looking at stills from the film, it really is mostly just red and maroon. There are multiple textures, though, as the sleeves are more "basketball" surface like while the shirt looks more like cloth. Gold painted buttons and plenty of gold painted ammunition definitely help this guy stand out. He's quite slick!

* Cowboypool looks really cool with his black cowboy hat. Seriously, though: Who doesn't look cooler with a Cowboy hat? It's a pretty stand Deadpool head but the addition of the hat just gives it a completely different look and feel.

* Cowboypool's bandolier is attached to his upper belt and is a separate piece. It's not removable but it does move with him. The red bandanna around his neck is also a separate piece, so you can pp it off if you want to. It doesn't really fit over his face, though I imagine with some heat you might be able to make it work.

* Not only does Cowboypool have maroon cowboy boots but he's also sporting some gold spurs. That's a pretty swanky look!

* I'm pretty happy with Cowboypool's articulation. It's not as good as the standard movie Deadpool but it works great for different shooting poses and just standing around ready for a showdown. He's a solid, sturdy figure and while he is missing a boot or shin swivel, he's still got the thigh swivels. Most of his pistol hands also have vertical hinges, so that makes those firing poses look just a bit better.

* Six swappable hands are included. There a right hand designed for the included "spinning" revolver effect, an open left hand, a pair of gripping hands, and a pair of trigger fingers. Everything swaps easily, so no worries about broken pegs here.

* Check out these two beautiful Colt revolvers! Those really are quite nice. Marvel Legends firearms aren't always the best, but these are really pretty impressive. Pearl handles, a nice silver color, and they have hollow barrels for putting firing effects in.

* These holsters are also really impressive. They're incredible detailed as fancy leather holsters often are and they hold the two Colts perfectly. They hang down from the nonremovable belt and just looks incredible.

* Check out this cool spinning pistol effect! It's a solid piece that fits over the finger of one of the included right hands. It's designed to make it look like Cowboypool is spinning his revolver on his trigger finger and it's a really neat effect. It might not be completely realistic looking or anything but it really is a pretty fun extra.

* Here's a shot from the back to show off more of Wade of the West's outfit and cool details such as his chaps, the stitching on the back of his shirt, the detail on the rear of his belt, and the tails hanging down from his bandanna.

How's Cowboypool? I am very impressed with him. Very, very impressed. I figured he'd be fun, sure, but the sculpted detail, the great hat, the multiple hands, the cool revolvers, and the spinning gun effect all just combine to make Cowboypool way cooler than I expected. He's nicely articulated, too, and has an impressive shelf presence. Pair him up with some other cowboy figures like Jonah Hex and Gunslinger Spawn and have some fun. Or just put him on the shelf with all of your other Deadpool figures. That'll work, too. He's really an Epic figure and definitely isn't a figure to miss.
