Action Figure Review: Fang from Marvel Legends Series: X-Men by Hasbro

I'm still crawling my way through this year's X-Men themed Marvel Legends Series and today I'm checking out another more obscure character: Fang. Fang is a character I mostly remember from Wolverine wearing is costume but he did have quite a few appearances over the years as a member of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. One of the Lupaks, Fang is actually a title as whichever member of the Lupaks serves in the Shi'ar Imperial Guard at any given time is referred to as fang. He kind of resembles a skinny Sabretooth, doesn't he? I picked up most of this series on discount, so they've been out for quite a few months now. Still, they are 2023 releases so they're relatively new. It's just taking me forever to get to all of them. Let's check out Fang after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 6 3/8ths inches

Articulation: Swivel/hinge ankles, boot swivels, double-hinged knees, swivel thighs, ball-jointed hips, swivel waist, hinged mid-torso, swivel/hinge shoulders w/ pectoral hinges, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, hinged neck, and a ball-jointed head.

Accessories: 4 interchangeable hands, necklace, two bracelets, and two anklets, head of Ch'od build-a-figure, and Cr'reee minifigure.

Non-Scalper Price: $25 dollars

The Positives:

* Fang is a great example of how just a few tweaks and a new paintjob can really make a unique figure. Fang uses one of the newer base bodies (a thin, muscular, wiry one) but the orange and brown outfit definitely stands out from most other X-Men and Marvel characters, other than Wolverine in his brown suit. What really adds some extra swag to the stew are the tooth-like collar, belt, and cuffs on Fang's gloves and boots. While he's a foe the X-Men encounter during their cosmic adventures, his outfit and demeanor definitely make him look like a brawler you'd expect Logan to encounter in the Savage Land or the Canadian Wilderness. This version of Fang is supposed to be a bit smaller than he's portrayed here, closer to Wolverine's height, but if you have him posed in a feral, Wolfman inspired crouch, it's not that noticeable.

* I love Fang's headsculpt! He really looks cool with a savage, snarling expression. The open mouth nicely shows off his pointy teeth. He's got a real werewolf vibe going on and if I hadn't had a full slate of figures to use for 31 Days of Toy Terror, Fang could have definitely fit in. He kind of reminds me of Henry Hull in Werewolf of London.

*All of Fang's tooth necklaces are separate pieces. The belt isn't removable without cutting it or separating the torso but everything else is. That's quite a few extra pieces!

* Fang's articulation is great. He's using one of the newer, pinless bodies and since he's thin and sinewy he can move without anything restricting him. He doesn't have the lateral shoulder joints (butterfly joints) but everything else is there and moves just fine. He's a really fun figure just to pick up and mess around with as he looks excellent in all kinds of fighting poses.

* Fang has two pairs of hands: Some sharp looking claws and a pair of fists. Simple to swap and they offer up two different ways to devastate his opponents!

* Fang comes with two pieces for the Ch'od Build-a-Figure. First up is the head...

* and second is Cr'reee, Ch'od's furry little alien partner. He's a neat little fellow. Kind of cute and odd with a long beak, three toed feet, and a long tail.

* Cr'reee does have a balljointed head, so that's pretty cool. He's a neat little minifigure that's appealing even if you're not building Ch'od.

Fang is another pretty solid figure from this series. Maybe my second favorite behind Corsair so far? He's just really fun to mess around with, he has an excellent headsculpt, and the inclusion of Cr'reee is a fun little extra. Yeah, Cr'reee is meant to go with Ch'od, but he's fully usable on his own, so he's definitely more valuable than just a Build-a-Figure piece. Fang is a Great figure and makes for another nice adversary for Wolverine or to flesh out the cosmic side of your X-Men/ Marvel Legends shelf.

  1. Totally forgot he was part of the Imperial Guard. Need some more of those guys to have a final battle with the X-Men.
