Wrapping Up 2025: Wolverine (WWII Logan) from Marvel Legends Series by Hasbro

 

   I'm always a sucker for a good Wolverine figure and I was really excited when Hasbro announced this World War 2 era version of Logan in the Executioner Build-a-Figure series that shipped near the end of 2025. Besides the cool scene in the montage at the beginning of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Wolverine has also been depicted fighting in World War 2 in an episode of the animated series where he teamed up with Captain America and in a number of comic stories over the years.  I'm not sure the figure is based on any specific depiction and is really an amalgam of different depictions. Really, it's just Logan decked out in a standard World War 2 army infantry outfit and that's enough for me. My grandfather was a veteran of World War 2 and I've always been interested in the history of that era, so mixing those factors with Wolverine was enough for me to scoop this guy up as soon as I found him. He's actually the only figure I grabbed from this series (and he's the one without a Build-a-Figure part).  I was somewhat interested in Phantom Rider, Enchantress, and Werewolf By Night but not at the new $28 dollar price point. The Facts:

Height: 6 inches

Articulation: Swivel/hinge ankles, boot swivels, double-hinged knees, swivel thighs, ball-jointed hips, swivel waist, hinged mid-torso, swivel/hinge shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, balljointed neck base, and a barbell jointed head.

Accessories: 2 portraits, 5 swappable hands, satchel, knife, and Thompson submachine gun. 

Non-Scalper Price: $28 dollars






The Positives:


* You really have to dog to find a Wolverine variant that stands out or that hasn't been done but this one absolutely feels fresh and new on the shelf. I love the look of this WW2 era arm outfit. There's not a ton of paint detail or shading but the sculpt is good and the varying shades of green between the pants and shirt nicely mix things up. The shirt is a bit more olive in hand than my pictures depict and there's a nice contrast with the brown web gear. Wolverine is suitably shorter than most other Marvel Legends figures and having him makes me want WW2 versions of Cap, Bucky, and Nicky Fury. 






* While Logan ages rather slowly, this first portrait does make him look noticeably younger. He also has some incredible hair. Like seriously, this is GQ Wolverine. It's a good sculpt but it makes me think of when Kotobukiya did those Ikemen DC figures featuring male characters that were kind of a complementary line to the Bishoujo series. We got Ikemen Wolverine right here!








* The second portrait looks much more traditionally Wolverine: He's snarling, his muttonchops look larger and hairier, and he seems to be in a bit of a berserker rage. He's also sporting an M1 helmet. It's not removable, but it is well fitted on the figure. 






* Here's a better look at the helmet from the side. It's a separate piece permanently attached to the portrait and it's a great sculpt with an excellent shape. The hanging chinstrap is a pretty cool touch, too. 










* Here's a closeup of the web gear and all of those pouches. The shoulder straps are part of the torso sculpt with painted clips and rings while the belt is a separate piece. It's not removable, though; just a separate piece around the waist.  








* And here's a shot of Logan from behind so you can see the back of his web gear and belt along with the SSR logo on his left shoulder. What's the SSR? The Strategic Scientific Reserve from Captain America: The First Avenger and Agent Carter. That's a neat little Easter egg and it really makes me hope that Hasbro builds a little WW2 era sub-team in Marvel Legends. 








* The gaiters over Logan's boots look really cool, too. There aren't too many 1/12th scaled World War 2 era action figures out on the market (though I think Valaverse has some coming in the near future) so little details like this really stand out.










* Just like Indiana Jones, Wolverine is also carrying a satchel. Hey! That's a heck of an idea. You could have Wolverine team up with Indiana Jones! Anyway, the satchel fits nicely over Logan's torso, giving him a bit more gear and a way to carry all of his cigars. 






* Hasbro released some Wolverine figures with amazing articulation in 2025. This one doesn't have articulation that's as impressive as most of the others like the Gamerverse Wolverine or the X-Men '97 brown suit Wolverine, but it kind of makes sense that he'd be a little bit inhibited wearing combat fatigues. He doesn't have the "butterfly" joints or a balljointed waist or anything but he can still move fairly well. He also has a balljointed neck base, something you don't see all that often on Legends, along with boot swivels. The left boot swivel is a bit restricted because of the sheath but overall he's a solid figure who looks cool charging into battle. 





* Wolverine has five swappable hands, three of which are just regular hands: There is a right hand pistol grip (which can hold the knife fairly securely in the lower three fingers), a left handed grasping hand, and a left hand fist. They swap easily with no issues.






* The second two hands are Wolverine's claws. Well, are they? I'm totally fine with Wolverine having claws though would have had his bone claws during World War 2. The bone claws weren't introduced until 1993 and I still sometimes forget that he has them. The wraps on his hands are probably meant to help hold the claws on as I think he was supposed to have used claws he just wore in a couple of his comic and cartoon World War 2 appearances. I really like these claws better than the ones where each blade is a single piece as they're very straight and quite sturdy. 






* This is a pretty cool Thompson submachine gun and it looks great with wolverine. It's pretty detailed with multiple paint applications for the wooden parts of the gun. 










* Does Wolverine really need a knife? During WW2, yeah, he might have, considering he didn't have his adamantium claws yet. This is a solid little accessory which he can grip in the pistol grip right hand. 










* It can also be stored in the leather sheath on his left boot. It fits in there quite nicely. You don't always get stuff like this with Marvel Legends, so it's pretty exciting when you do. 






   I wasn't impressed with the rest of the figures from the Executioner series, especially at the new $28 dollar price point, but Logan in his WW2 gear? He's a darn nice figure. It's really cool to get a Wolverine figure that stands out from the rest. This figure is so cool that my dad even called me to make sure I knew about it as he saw it while out and about. He might not have a piece of Executioner but with 2 portraits, swappable hands, a unique and well executed uniform, and some solid accessories, Wolverine (WWII Logan) definitely feels like a figure worthy of your attention. He's one of my favorites from 2025 for sure.
