Wrapping Up 2025: Ninjor from Masterverse/ Masters of the Universe: New Eternia by Mattel

It's February 2026 and I'm winding down my "Wrapping Up 2025" reviews. I haven't been on YouTube in a bit but on Monday evening, 8pm EST I plan to do a live even of my first set of awards for the best of 2025: My Top Ten Toylines. Join me on Action Figure Barbecue on YouTube then!

My local Walmarts and Target seemed to be filled with the vintage collection Masterverse figures and the various He-Man and Skeletor variants, so I didn't acquire most of the Masterverse figures I wanted last year until near the end of 2025. Ninjor was one of my must haves and I'm glad that I finally tracked him down. Who doesn't love Ninjor, the most uniquely and creatively named ninja in the universe? While overall I do still prefer the style and design of Masters of the Universe Classics, this MOTU: New Eternia Ninjor definitely feels like a figure that rivals the MOTUC version. Ninjor has had some real time to shine lately due to appearing in the Turtles of Grayskull comic series and he ended up with both a Masterverse and a Turtles of Grayskull action figure last year. In New Eternia, he's referred to as a demon king from the dimension of Noir who is searching for the Power of Grayskull for his own evil purposes. Let's take a look at the Masterverse Ninjor after the break...

Comparison:

* Here's a quick look at the Masterverse/ New Eternia Ninjor and the MOTUC Ninjor/ Ninja Warrior. While the MOTUC Ninjor has an all black outfit, the Masterverse Ninjor actually has a midnight blue suit with black highlights in places It's a different look but I kind of like it.

The Positives:

* Two elements of the New Eternia Ninjor figure that really jump out to me are the new midnight blue color scheme for his outfit and the respectable amount of armor he's wearing. While Ninjor is typically just clad in all black, I really like the midnight blue outfit with the black highlights, such as on the balaclava worn underneath his hood and on his waist piece. He's also sporting some heavier armor. The chest piece is removable but looks pretty substantial with a cool dragon design and some interesting paint effects, especially on the shoulders, to make it look ancient and worn. He's also sporting bright red armored boots and gloves which are nice upgrades from the vintage figure. The vintage figure was a very simple figure and was designed to be made from mostly reused parts, so it's cool to see Ninjor really get an all out redesign.

* Ninjor's true face isn't visible like on the vintage figure or the MOTUC figure. Only his eyes are visible and they're glowing red. It's not a bad ninja sculpt and I do like the way he's wearing a hood over his balaclava, but it is missing Ninjor's more unique appearance. Fortunately, the included masks make up for that...

* A new addition to Ninjor is the ability to wear swappable masks. First up is a mask that looks a little bit like his vintage unmasked face, though it's clearly a mask. Maybe based on a Noh mask?  It's a cool feature and the mask stays on very securely. It's really a rather disturbing look.

* The second mask seems more like an Oni mask. It's cast in a really eye-catching metallic red plastic with separate silver tusks and teeth poking through. I like that you can see Ninjor's red eyes through the eyeholes as well. It's very creepy!

* While the vintage Ninjor was created to reuse as many parts as possible, one of the inspired ideas to make him stand out was the use of the Dragon Blaster Skeletor legs, giving him a more supernatural and demonic feel. He's not just your standard ninja! These are the best boots we've seen yet on a Ninjor figure. These look well armored with a strangely organic feel, too (there are random "warts" on them). Also, the silver claws are excellent and really go nicely with the figure.

* The gloves and belt share the same brilliant red color as the boots and the same design that looks like armor designed to have a somewhat organic design. Those sharp edges make you wonder if they could be used as weapons when engaged in close combat. The scale mail of the trunks is also a cool detail. I checked out a bunch of other New Eternia figures and didn't see anyone else with this so it also seems to be a new part.

* To armor up Ninjor a bit more you can put on this armor to protect his thighs. It's reused from Jitsu but recolored to match Ninjor's colors. There's also a different attachment on the left hip, designed to hold Ninjor's nunchaku.

* Ninjor is another fairly standard Masterverse figure with solid articulation; he's pretty similar in build to most other male figures in the line. It's not the most cutting edge articulation around but there isn't anything wrong with it. It's durable, has sturdy, tight joints, and a pretty good range of motion. While I'm excited to see Mattel roll out the improved articulation and other advancements of the upcoming MOTU Chronicles line, I don't think there's really a need to start a line in another scale. Masterverse. I mean, is there a big enough fanbase who hasn't been collecting Classics and Masterverse that will want to jump into the inevitable "classic" direction Chronicles will likely go in?

* OK; I'm off my rant and talking about Ninjor again. Since he's a ninja he has to come with a sword. It's a decent blade; sturdy and sharp looking.

* There's a spot on the back of Ninjor's armor where he can store either his katana or his bow. Yes, the bow can also fit into that little clip on the back. It's not elaborate but it does keep his weapon in place.

* This bow might be Ninjor's best accessory. It's not just a regular bow and arrow, either; it's an energy bow of some sort. I love the dragon's mouth that the energy arrows presumably fly out of. That's a darn fine looking accessory.

* The nunchaku are quite cool, too. They're also molded in transparent red plastic with a plastic chain. Are the energy nunchucks? Maybe they're made out of ruby quartz or something, so that's why they look the way they do.

* The nunchaku can be stored in this cool pouch on the side of the waist armor, hanging off of the belt. The storage pack even has an Oni face on it. I really like this! They look great tucked away in there.

The Negatives:

* The red paint on the handle is chipping away already. Bummer.

* I love the design of Ninjor's armor and the emblem on his chest but look at that paint? It's so darn messy! It's a shame that Mattel had such a killer sculpt and design and allowed it to be ruined with a shoddy paint application.

Ninjor really does cook here. It's a shame that those little QC keep him from being possibly the best Masterverse figure of 2025. Well, the QC errors and the fact that he's not Moss Man. But, seriously, this is a pretty incredible figure. He's a great redesign that still captures everything cool about the vintage look but also manages to improve upon stuff that was a bit basic and add some really cool new ideas. Masterverse: New Eternia is the most exciting MOTU line to me in a long time and it's a shame that it seems to be ending. I love getting new ideas and concepts in the line, especially when they're as well accessorized as these guys. Ninjor is a Great and a 1/2 figure and definitely worth tracking down.
