Action Figure Review: Dragstor from Masterverse: Masters of the Universe: New Etheria from Mattel

While I'm still finishing off some 2025 reviews here and there (and I'm getting ready for my annual "Best of" lists for the previous year), it's the beginning of February and I'm ready to check out some new stuff. Sometime in January I made a trip to a collectible shop that I absolutely love, Needless Toys and Collectibles in Lincolnton, NC, and grabbed the three newest Masterverse figures and a handful of older Masterverse figures that I missed in 2025. Despara was one of those three new figures and today I'm looking at another one: Dragstor! I haven't reviewed many Dragstor figures on here, partially because Dragstor isn't all that popular and there haven't been many toys of the character made. I did review the Masters of the Universe Classics Dragstor back when he was released and he was, I believe, the last non-variant character released to complete the vintage MOTU and Princess of Power rosters. This Masterverse Dragstor isn't a significant hallmark in any way though he is a darn cool figure. Probably my favorite of the latest series of releases. Sadly, it sounds like Masterverse is coming to an end by the end of this year as Mattel shifts their focus to Masters of the Universe Chronicles. Will that make the 2026 Masterverse releases more difficult to find? Will there be a Phantom Series/ Wave? Who knows? For now, let's enjoy Dragstor. Ready, set, go...

Comparison:

* Just for fun here is a look at three Dragstor figures: The vintage Dragstor (left), the Masterverse Dragstor (center), and the MOTUC Dragstor (right). Generally I prefer the MOTUC figures the best, though Dragstor was a bit wonky with a nonfunctioning chest tire that sat a bit too low. They're all pretty cool sculpts, though, and the Mastrerverse one definitely still looks like Dragstor while offering a few new design elements.

The Positives:

* Dragstor is a member of the Evil Horde though there's some blue and orange mixed in with his black and red color scheme. The Masterverse/ New Etheria version of Dragstor is a bit more colorful than the previous versions, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. He's a very unique looking figure and features what I'm assuming is a fully unique sculpt. There aren't many other MOTU characters with a giant wheel on their chests who roll around as living vehicles. A subject of Hordak's experiments, the once human Theydon was turned into a living machine and now has all kinds of tubes covering his body, connecting him to the engine on his back. The sculpt is really good with lots of crisp details and neat paint applications.

* Instead of a full headed helmet with a rounded top, the Masterverse Dragstor is sporting a more stylized Horde logo with a separate facemask with tusk-like designs protruding from the sides. It's a cool look, especially with his green face and yellow, almost serpent-like eyes peering out. Spooky!

* I'm really glad that Dragstor actually has a wheel in his chest. A functioning one, at that. He really can roll! The MOTUC Dragstor just had a rubbery wheel sculpted as part of his overlay but this Dragstor can be placed on the ground so you can roll him back and forth. No, he doesn't have a ripcord feature like the vintage toy but I'm quite happy with just a functioning wheel. I can make him zoom all on my own, thank you very much.

* Here's a look at Dragstor's back so you can see all of the pipes and tubes connected to him. When he's not feeling well does he take himself to the mechanic? Instead of an ambulance does he have to call EAA? You know, the Etherian (or Eternian) Automobile Association. If you put sugar in his gas tank does he get diabetes? Inquiring minds want to know.

* The arms and gloves are really cool with lots of unique sculpted elements to make them appear all "techy" and whatnot.

* His legs are cool, too. I'm not sure what the real purpose of Dragstor's thigh pads are (they're not removable though they look like separate parts permanently attached over his thighs) but they look rather neat and are something the vintage figure had. Does he use them to perhaps steer? That sounds weird, but maybe they help guide him while he's coasting along. I also really like the orange boots. The vintage figure had orange globes and red boots but I kind of like the all orange look here, especially with those bronze Horde bats on them.

* A really cool feature of this New Etheria Dragstor is that you can swap his hands with some smaller wheels. Now he's a tricycle! These wheels also roll and are pretty easy to swap out. I bet he can find ways to use them in combat, too. Imagine Dragstor leaving skid marks on someone's face after he delivers them a hefty strike?

* His articulation is quite good. He doesn't have the mid-torso articulation like most other Masterverse figures but I'm happy to make that trade off for the rolling chest wheel. Everything else is pretty standard for the line meaning he's solid and has a nice range of motion. Imagine this guy just zooming around crazily, running over anyone who gets on his bad side? He's really fun to play with and can take some crazy poses utilizing either his chest wheel or his hand wheels.

* Heck, you can even flip his arms around and use his chest wheel and those wrist wheels. I think this is seriously fun and just a weird, wacky way to use Dragstor. Could another member of the Horde ride on him? Yeah, that sounds weird, but is it something we've ever seen before and that I just can't remember. Maybe someone smaller, like Catra or Entrapta.

* Instead of the standard Horde crossbow, this version of Dragstor takes a nod from the MOTUC Dragstor and gives us his engine that doubles as a crossbow shaped weapon. There's a grip on the bottom and it looks like the doo main engine thrusters (or whatever) would function as laser blasters or something. It's quite cool in a weird, probably impractical but "makes sense for MOTU" sort of way.

* The crossbow engine does attach onto Dragstor's back, securing in place snugly. I wonder if he can fire it while he's rolling around?

Dragstor is cool. Very, very cool. He's a ton of fun, has a great sculpt, a functioning chest wheel, and the ability to swap his hands for more wheels. I really like how he turned out. I'm excited for MOTU Chronicles, sure, but I really wanted to see all of the vintage figures get the Masterverse New Eternia/ New Etheria treatment. I've loved these new concepts and how toyetic the figures have been. Dragstor is one of my favorite Masterverse figures in recent memory and he's packed with play value. He's quite Epic and the only thing I would have liked to have seen was some fun riff on the vintage ripcord, perhaps as a new weapon of sorts.
