As I'm wrapping up reviewing the huge number of action figures I picked up during the last quarter of 2025 it's time to check out some more X-Men '97 releases. I'm not going to be reviewing all of them as there were quite a few but I'm trying to cover the ones that standout a bit more and Morph definitely stands out a bit as the character was largely created for the original X-Men animated series and has been revised quite heavily for X-Men '97. Morph was based on the character Changeling and was brought into the show specifically to have a character to kill off. People liked Morph though and Morph appeared later in the series, back from the dead and with a lot of trauma from the experience. While Morph was male in the original series, in X-Men '97 Morph is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. Morph also seems far more powerful than before, not only transforming into multiple characters (including Mr. Fantastic, Psylocke, the Incredible Hulk, Magik, Quicksilver, and Juggernaut) but also gaining some of their powers. Morph is definitely more than just a shape-shifter as they take multiple energgy bursts when disguised as Colossus. Ready to take a look at this new interpretation of Morph? Then join me after the break...

Comparison:
* On the left is the X-Men '97 Morph with their "classic" appearance head while the Marvel Legends VHS Morph from Hasbro Pulse is on the right. There's obviously no shared parts here as the X-Men '97 Morph has a much more slender build than the classic Animated Series build, who shares his parts with other standard Legends X-Men figures (mostly Cyclops). I'm pretty sure the '97 Morph gets a completely unique sculpt for their first figure.
The Positives:
* Here's Morph! The X-Men '97 figures might not have a lot of elaborate paintwork like shading and such but they do have very bold colors and a very clean look that matches the animation. Most of the color simply comes from the use of different plastics for different parts of the figure. Some folks will like it and some won't; I appreciate the vibrancy. Morph is sporting a jacket like the original incarnation of the character, though their build is quite slender now. Hasbro really has created almost all new molds for the figures in this line/ subset, so that's pretty impressive. The sculpt is good and nicely differentiates Morph's build from the rest of the team, really emphasizing the differences between each member of the team.
* Morph's jacket is pretty cool and looks great, especially the cleanly painted X logos on the belt and on the left breast. The jacket is a separate piece, though there's no reason to remove it as the sleeves aren't removable; just the "vest" shell.
* Rather than have the default head which they previously had, Morph's new head is inspired by their look in Age of Apocalypse, when the character did make an appearance in the comics. You could tell the Potterheads you know that this is young Voldemort/ Tom Riddle! It kind of looks like Voldemort, doesn't it? It looks like Morph in the series, though, and captures their mischievous appearance with a bit of a grin present. It's interesting that Morph settled on this as their default appearance as it resembles something like a mannequin or a non-descript person on a sign or something. The skin around their neck is also grey, so this is clearly the default look.
* Morph's go-to look when passing for a non-mutant is clearly inspired by the original animated series appearance but clearly looks younger this time around. Morph doesn't sport this look most of the time but they do use it from time to time.
* Morph's third portrait can either be Morph impersonating the anti-mutant crusader Henry Peter Gyrich or you can use it on a spare suited body you to just have a Henry Peter Gyrich action figure for your collection. Gyrich is rather stern looking with an intense haircut and eyes hidden behind silver lenses. It's a good portrait. I've seen folks use a Professor X body due to the green suit and come out with a very effective and simple Gyrich custom.
* Morph's articulation is pretty good. Not incredible, like Spider-Man or anything, but plenty good enough to do anything with them that you'd want to do. He's sturdy with decent joints and little to restrict their movement. Morph has an ab-hinge rather than a balljoint but it moves pretty well, even with the jacket hanging over the torso. The jacket is fairly pliable and doesn't interfere much.
* Four swappable hands are also included: A pair of relaxed hands and a pair of fists. They swap easily, so no worries here.
Morph turned out pretty well and is definitely a character we haven't had too many version of in Marvel Legends. It's a new take on the character and they look pretty good mixed in with the rest of the team. Throwing in the Gyrich head was also a smart move on Hasbro's part as I could see comic fans who aren't interested in X-Men '97 figures wanting it. I'm still salty about Hasbro's price hikes from last year and it's definitely impacted my figure buying as I didn't buy many non X-Men legends at the new higher prices. Morph is a Good and a 1/2 figure; not one of the highlights of the line or anything, but definitely packing some solid extras with the three swappable heads.
This is the first figure of Morph that I've reviewed on the site. For more Marvel Legends Series reviews check out the following:
