Wrapping Up 2025: Tony Tony Chopper (Future Island Egghead) from S.H. Figuarts: One Piece by Bandai/ Tamashi Nations

One property I got into collecting in 2025 that was new to me was One Piece. My wife has been a One Piece fan for a few years now but I really only got into the show in 2025. I am not far in it (I'm only in the Water 7 arc) but I do know quite a bit about future arcs and have seen many of them do to catching it when my wife has it on. We just started getting Crunchyroll and I was hoping to watch the newer stuff with her but she has decided to go back and watch through the Crunchyroll version of the series from the beginning. She's probably watched 3/4ths of what I have watched in about 2 to 3 weeks. It's insane! I don't know much about the Future Island/ Egghead arc but I do love the look of the Straw Hats and other characters from the show in the SSG/ Special Science Group outfits. I've picked up a number of the Bandai/ Namco statues/ prize figures from the Future Island/ Egghead arc but this version of Tony Tony Chopper is a fully articulated action figure from the Bandai/ Tamashi Nations line. Well, as fully articulated as such a small figure can be, which is really quite a bit for his size and proportions. This is without a doubt the best action figure of a blue nosed reindeer doctor wearing an advanced uniform with rocket boots in my collection! Ready to check out the Future Island Egghead version of Tony Tony Chopper? Then join me after the break...

The Positives:

* One Piece has a crazy mixture of diverse body types and such across the array of characters. For a range of figures like S.H. Figuarts, whose articulation is typically their major sales feature, having such a small character Tony Tony Chopper is a challenge. Appearance wise, though, they did a great job. Chopper is incredibly color and his outfit looks really impressive. Like Luffy's SSG outfit, he's also sporting a technologically advanced coat, though in blue and pink to match his standard post-time skip colors.

* I'm going to take a look at each of the four faceplates that come with Chopper, but first let's just appreciate how excellent his helmet is. The SSG look combines the post time skip hat that Chopper wears over the hat that Dr. Hiriluk gave him (that's the pink brim sticking out) with goggles and a helmet. It's a cool look that's much more futuristic than anything we usually see Dr. Tony Tony Chopper wear. Everything is smooth and bright, just like the animation it's based on.

* Not only does Chopper have his antlers sticking out (he's not a raccoon dog, you know) but they are removable so you can swap the faceplates out. Take note that the metal brace from Chopper's damaged left antler is even present. To swap the faceplates you remove both antlers and the brim of his pink hat and visor (all one piece) and then remove the front half of the helmet and chin piece.

* Four portraits are included and they are all all expressive and catch the look of the character from the anime perfectly. First up is a standard Chopper look. It's pretty neutral with his round regular, round eyes, a closed mouth, and of course his cute little nose. The portraits are pretty solid and stay on the figure well, even before you secure them in.

* Next up is a happy or excited looking Chopper. His eyebrows are a little bit different and you can see some lines beneath his eyes to show that he's smiling. Of course, his mouth is now open and he's grinning very visibly. There must be some cotton candy nearby!

* My favorite portrait is probably this one, showing Chopper blushing. Whenever he gets complimented, Chopper starts blushing and deflecting the compliments, holding back his happiness while claiming that the compliments don't make him happy, won't endear someone to him, etc. It's a pretty funny gag in the show when it happens and with the right poses you can really have this figure replicate this bizarre elements of Chopper's character quite well.

* Chopper definitely gets pretty scared and is easily upset, so here's a portrait of him crying. His eyebrows make his brow look furrowed, he's sweating just a bit, and he has streams of tears running down his face. You can see that his eyes have changed their appearance quite a bit, too.

* I really like the design of the boots on all of the characters wearing them in the Future Island arc. Chopper's are small, sure, but they have the same style and details as everyone else's boots, including the little thrusters on the bottom.

* Chopper's handy backpack is removable if you want to take it off for some reason. It does have a small hole in the back that allows the display stand to plug into it.

* The included display stand for Chopper isn't too large, but it fits him well. Rather than use foot pegs, there is an articulated arm that plugs into the backpack and allows him to stand in different poses. It doesn't support him hovering or anything; but using the rod rather than foot pegs does make it easier to support him in some more unusual ways. There's a balljoint at the base of the arm, a hinge in the middle, and the connection point is a balljoint as well.

* How's the articulation? Well, considering Chopper is such a small character with a larger head and smaller body who is wearing a long coat, it's not bad. I'm really not sure what could have been done with the design to make him more articulated. Honestly, he could have been an accessory pack in with just a balljointed head or something, but Tamashi Nations gave him a full complement of joints and you'll be surprised at his motion.

"Shut up you jerks! I didn't need all of these joints, did I? Don't think that giving me a balljointed mid torso is going to make me blush or anything."

* Like all of the other S.H. Figuarts One Piece figures I'm aware of, Chopper comes with a swappable face for Luffy. This should work on any of your other Luffy figures in this line and features a really happy Luffy with a huge smile and his eyes closed. He's pretty pleased about something!

The Negatives:

* My only negative with Chopper is that the brim of his classic hat and the visor (one single piece) attach directly into his faceplate. I know there are some facial differences in Chopper pre and post timeskip in the show but I wish the faceplates would be able to be used with the upcoming Drum Island Chopper, too. Also, it would be nice to be able to display Chopper like this without a large slit in the top of his face.

I'm really happy with how Tony Tony Chopper (Future Island Egghead) came out. It's a cool design and Chopper is a fun character, so he'll look great wherever you want to display him. The articulation is great for such a small character with a non traditional body design and a long coat and the swappable portraits are all well done. He's pricier than your average US retail mass market action figure, sure, but Tamashi Nations brought him in at less than your average S.H. Figuarts figure, so that's welcome. He's a Great and a 1/2 figure and a fun addition to the collection.
