Action Figure Review: Dark Avengers Warbird from Marvel Legends Series: Dark Avengers by Hasbro

Just a week or so ago Hasbro Pulse delivered my Dark Avengers Warbird figure right to my door. So, boom, here's my first new Marvel Legends Series figure of 2025. I'm only just passingly familiar with the Dark Avengers, so who is this? The packaging and everything I'm reading says this is the supervillain Moonstone disguised as Carol Danvers, AKA Ms. Marvel. Not sure why they're calling her Warbird here unless Disney/ Marvel doesn't want anyone to use that name except for Kamala Khan, but you know what? I'm going to call her Ms. Marvel. In fact, I'm just straight up using this figure as a classic Ms. Marvel. It's pretty much exactly her second costume (the first had a big cutout and showed off her stomach). Whether you're wanting to build a Dark Avengers team (which Hasbro does seem to be working towards) or you want a classic Carol Danvers, this figure should have you covered. I loved last year's Warbird Carol, so it's nice to get another version of her so soon. By the way, is anyone else just baffled that Hasbro hasn't released a proper comic version of Carol as Captain Marvel since 2015? I have most of the Brie Larson ones, and they're pretty solid, but I want an updated comic version of Captain Marvel, too. She's like the only major Marvel MCU hero who hasn't received an updated comic version of their main look in the past 5 years. Let's check this one out after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 6 inches

Articulation: Swivel/hinge ankles, double-hinged knees, swivel thighs, balljointed hips, hinged waist, balljointed mid-torso, swivel/hinge shoulders w/ lateral pec hinges, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, and a barbell jointed head.

Accessories: 4 swappable hands, 2 swappable portraits, scarf, and 2 energy effects.

Non-Scalper Price: $25 dollars

The Positives:

* This is a pretty basic superhero outfit, but it's classic, too. Red and black with an eight-pointed star right in the middle and a scarf. I will point out that this is not the same body that was used for Warbird/ the black and yellow costume for Ms. Marvel last year as a Target exclusive. This one is slimmer and there aren't any sculpted details. It's a base body painted. It looks good, though, and all of the paint details are nice and crisp with clean lines. Everyjoint is pinless, too.
* Dark Avengers Warbird/ Moonstone in disguise/ Ms. Marvel comes with two portraits, and this one definitely makes me think of an earlier version of Carol's Ms. Marvel look. It's not quite as late 1960s/ 1970s as some might want, but it definitely captures the look of a younger version of Carol Susan Jane Danvers. The thicker mask is sculpted (not just painted on) and her eyes look really nice. Hasbro went with a fairly neutral facial expression here and some voluminous hair. Seriously, she has great hair. Maybe not quite Farrah Fawcett hair, but it's in the ballpark.

* Second up is a portrait that looks a bit older and more modern. I'm guessing this is intended to be Moonstone disguised as Carol in her Capt. Marvel persona (which Hasbro is calling Warbird here). Are you following this? Anyways, this is actually a repaint of one of the portraits from the Target exclusive Warbird from last year. It looks great and has glowing yellow eyes, showing whoever this may be powered up.

* Carol's Ms. Marvel look has a scarf of sorts. That's what I'm calling it, anyway. It's a separate piece and can be removed when you pop her head off.

* Carol's articulation is excellent (I'm not even going to pretend this is Moonstone in my collection. This is Carol Danvers all the way) and features pinless joints, pectoral "butterfly" hinges, and a balljointed torso. She's really sturdy and moves just like you'd except. I do wish she had a balljointed waist rather than the hinged waist, but that's more of an aesthetic preference and not one I'm going to knock the figure for. You're getting a very decent figure here for sure.

* The hands are swappable and standard: Just a pair of open, gesturing hands and a pair of fists. It'd be nice to get one or two more sets (Hasbro needs to go ahead and step up and make some hands with the energy effects attached) but at least we have some options.

* Two energy effects that wrap around the forearms are also included. We've seen these many times but they still make the figure look just a bit cooler on display.

I'm not going to say that Dark Avengers Warbird/ Moonstone in disguise/ Carol Danvers/ Ms. Marvel is the most impressive Marvel Legends figure out there right now, but she did turn out quite well. She's a Great figure that doesn't do anything new while still delivering a quality take on this character. Including two portraits was a nice feature and definitely helps to improve the figure. I'd love to see Hasbro get in the habit of including flight stands or more energy effect hands with standard releases like this that aren't part of a Build-a-Figure series, but with that Maximum Spider-Man selling out, I think we're going to see Hasbro tie more goodies to higher prices.

If you count this as Moonstone, this is the first figure of that character I've reviewed.

If you consider it to be Carol Danvers you're a fan of Carol Danvers/ Ms. Marvel/ Captain Marvel/ Binary/ Warbird, I've reviewed a few other figures of her, including the Marvel Legends Series MCU Captain Marvel, Binary, the Marvel Legends: Infinity Saga Captain Marvel & Rescue Armor 2-pack, the Marvel Legends Infinite Series Captain Marvel (Maidens of Might), the Ms. Marvel, Captain America, & Radioactive Man 3-Pack and the Toy Biz Marvel Legends Warbird

  1. Great figure. But yeah, it's just classic Ms. Marvel.

    1. That's definitely what I think, too. I think she's designed to be more versatile and Disney just doesn't want anyone but Kamala Khan to be labeled Ms. Marvel.
