*This podcast originally aired on January 18th 2015, and is part of our Retro Rewind initiative to publish our back catalog of episodes for our listeners!

In the 2015 debut episode of The Confirmed Epic Podcast The Reel Brad Bell, Jerry “Barbecue 17” Reed of the newly formed Actionfigurebarbecue.blogspot.com, and Andrew Stokes all return to review Marvel Comics best-selling Star Wars #1 by Jason Aaron.

In Epic News we discuss the departure of Tom Hardy from the Suicide Squad film and our thoughts on Jake Gyllenhaal as a potential replacement, and what All-star casting means for DC films moving forward.

As always we talk about what we have been checking out: The Babadook, the new NETFLIX original series Marco Polo, and the phenomenon that is loot crate.

Action Figure Review: Tyrannosaurus Rex & Monolophosaurus (Battle Damage) from Jurassic World by Mattel

By now my guess is that you've seen Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, right? I saw it last Thursday and while I will save most of my thoughts on it for the upcoming episode of the Confirmed Epic Podcast, I will say that I have some very mixed feelings on the film. It does a lot well while but it also has some flaws. I don't have too many complaints about Mattel's Jurassic World toyline, however. While the humans are pretty boring, the dinosaurs have all been really fun thus far. I received this Battle Damage two-pack of the Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Monolophosaurus (exclusive to Wal-Mart) from my wife and daughter for Father's Day which, along with this cool Mini Dino Multipack and some cards, made the day incredibly awesome. Actually, my favorite gift might have been a card from my daughter! She made it at preschool and it featured questions about me that my 4-year old answered. Of course, even loving that gift I still never turn down dinosaurs. Let's check out this cool 2-pack after the break...

Confirmed Epic Podcast #96: Insidious The Last Key

Join The Confirmed Epic Podcast as once again we join up with our favorite paranormal investigator: Elise Rainer (Lin Shaye), and review the latest installment of the Insidious franchise Adam Robitel's: Insidious The Last Key.

As always we also get into what we have been checking out (Everything Sucks on Netflix), and the epic news items of the week (Halloween 2018 Trailer, The Disney Fox Deal, Captain Marvel being the center of the MCU moving forward, and Dark Horse's upcoming Stranger Things Comic).

We also have a brand new game of percentages in the new Epic Games segment.

Action Figure Review: Triceratops (Roarivores) from Jurassic World by Mattel

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom should now be in theaters everywhere and my guess is that the toys are really flying off of the shelves. I cannot remember the last time I saw a movie based toyline sell through at my local Wal-Mart and Target as many times as I've seen the Jurassic World toys from Mattel disappear from shelves and after kids get a chance to see the film this weekend I expect we'll see these sell even faster. Today I'm checking out the Roarivores Triceratops. Roarivores are the range of dinosaurs that include battery operated sound effects and some button activated action features. Wal-Mart put these on Roll Back last week so now instead of being around $15 or $16 dollars they sell for around $11 or $12. That's a great price and it sold me on picking up both the Allosaurus I reviewed yesterday and the Triceratops I'm reviewing today. Let's check out this classic dinosaur today, shall we?

Confirmed Epic Podcast Retro Rewind #24 (Re-Release): Toy Fair 2014 & Star Wars Black

*This podcast originally aired on February 24th 2014, and is part of our Retro Rewind initiative to publish our back catalog of episodes for our listeners!

*This podcast was originally re-released on Monday June 18th 2018, but due to technical difficulties was pulled.  The problems have now been corrected for your listening pleasure.

In this special giant sized edition of The Confirmed Epic Podcast rather than reviewing a film this week we spend the majority of the show covering Toy Fair 2014.  In their Toy Fair 2014 discussion The Reel Brad Bell and BBQ17 discuss the offerings from NECA, DC Collectibles, Playmates, Hasbro, Dark Horse and Funko among others.  They also discuss the items they must own from the show and Toy Fair 2014’s biggest disappointments.

Before that BBQ and Brad discuss what they have been CHECKING OUT: House of Cards Season 1, Star Wars Black Waves 1 and 2, and must watch bad horror films currently on Netflix watch instantly.

In EPIC NEWS: we discuss The Raid American Remake, Princess of Leia recasting rumors, and of course our thoughts on the recently released Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer.  We also get off into a few tangents in this one such as: the Star Wars characters we most want to see get the black series treatment!

Something Has Survived!: Allosaurus (Roarivores) from Jurassic World by Mattel

Today is the official release date for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in the USA and I am excited for this movie! My "Something Has Survived!" series of reviews has been a fun way to help express my own hype for the film, especially considering I wasn't really looking forward to this toyline. The last time I even cared about toys from a Jurassic Park film release was Kenner's toyline for the Lost World but Mattel has really worked some magic. Today I'm checking out one of the battery operated "Roarivores" that I found at Wal-Mart earlier this week: The Allosaurus. These typically retail for around $15 or $16 bucks but Wal-Mart has put these on rollback and they are flying off shelves for around $11 or $12 bucks. This is going to be the first appearance of an Allosaurus in a Jurassic Park film, so let's celebrate by checking out this very cool toy...

Something Has Survived!: Mini Dino Multipack from Jurassic World by Mattel

For Father's Day I got some great cards from my daughter and wife and two really cool gifts. The first gift is this very cool 15-pack of dinosaur minifigures from Mattel's Jurassic World line. Sold in a package with each figure in a plastic tray, this set gives you fifteen nicely sized dinosaurus (they're a bit larger than what you might think of as being minifigure sized, but they work really well for dinosaurs) for $10 bucks. That's a heck of a value! They feel very solid and just a bit rubbery, kind of like a M.U.S.C.L.E. figure, which I love. Mattel has some great Jurassic Park product out right now and this Wal-Mart exclusive set is pretty impressive. My daughter and I had a blast with these Sunday afternoon and I anticipate them making their way to playtime quite often. Let's check out this Mini Dino Multipack after the break.

A True Haunted Toy Story!: Dr. Ian Malcom #552 from Jurassic Park from POP! Movies by Funko

I know what you're thinking. A 'True Haunted Toy Story?' Don't you just write toy reviews and make terrible jokes, Barbecue17? Well, every now and then something happens to us that we just can't explain. My something started earlier this month. During a trip to Target I stumbled upon the Target exclusive Funko POP! of Dr. Ian Malcom from Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park is easily one of my favorite films of all time and, with Dr. Ian Malcom being one of my favorite characters, I knew I had to pick up this incredibly awesome and scene specific POP! vinyl of Jeff Goldblum in his classic shirtless pose from the film. Even if you don't click that link, you know what I'm talking about, don't you? I figured this would be a cool, fun Funko POP! to have around for nostalgia and a few laughs. Boy was I wrong! Since bringing this toy into my home my life has descended into chaos! Strange music! TVs that turn on by themselves! Changes in temperature! What is happening? I'm writing this because #1 I'm at my wits end and #2 I don't want the same fate to befall you. For a haunted toy tale more terrifying than Annabelle, keep reading!

Confirmed Epic Podcast Retro Rewind #24 Technical Difficulties & Re-Release

Many of you know over the past few months we here at The Confirmed Epic Podcast have made efforts to post older episodes not currently available through our Retro Rewind initiative.  The purpose of this being to make older episodes of the pod not currently available on our iTunes feed and youtube page accessible to our listeners.

This past Friday we released Confirmed Epic Podcast Retro Rewind edition #24 talking Toy Fair 2014, and Star Wars Black.  However instead we gave you episode #26 talking Captain American Winter Soldier, which you can listen to HERE.  This was due with a technical difficulty with the MP3 associated with this older file.  We are fixing the problem, and will re-release this podcast on Friday June 22nd 2018 on The Epic Review, Action Figure Barbecue, Geeks World Wide, iTunes, and youtube.

We apologize for any interruption to your listening pleasure, and thank you for listening to The Confirmed Epic Podcast!

Minifigure Review: Elsa (Frozen Fever) from Kinder Joy: Frozen by Ferrero

There are certain things that I have a hard time turning down, three of which are minifigures, candy, and Frozen. That means that I've had a pretty tough time resisting the Kinder Joy: Frozen Kinder Eggs that have been showing up on store shelves lately. Last time I got the standard "Let it Go" version of Queen Elsa and this time I nabbed the "Frozen Fever" version of Elsa. Based on the 7-minute short Frozen Fever, this version of Elsa is decked out in a much more summery dress than her previous incarnations. Like most other Kinder Egg/ Kinder Joy toys, Elsa comes unassembled with a small instruction booklet. Put the five pieces together and you have a pretty cool Elsa minifigure with an actual fabric cloak. Pretty slick, right? Let's check out this neat little Elsa after the break...

Confirmed Epic Podcast Retro Rewind #25: 300 Rise of an Empire

*This podcast originally aired on March 24th 2014, and is part of our Retro Rewind initiative to publish our back catalog of episodes for our listeners!

The Reel Brad Bell has laryngitis in this one so AKA Andrew Stokes and BBQ17 are left to handle things in the 25th episode of The Confirmed Epic Podcast where we finally review 300 Rise of an EmpireBelieve me, you don’t want to miss our thoughts on Eva Green’s Epic performance in this sequel!

In Epic News this week we discuss: a possible Game of Thrones feature film, Star Wars Episode 7 being set 30 years after Return of the Jedi, Phil Lord and Chris Miller potentially replacing Ivan Reitman as the Director of Ghostbusters 3, and the latest Jurassic World casting news.

We also talk about what we have been checking out: Moth Man books, spectator video gaming, and our favorite childhood lunch boxes.

Minifigure Review: Pack B (Series 4) from DC Nano Metalfigs by Jada Toys

Today I'm looking at Pack B from the two series 4 5-packs released in the DC Nano Metalfigs line. While Pack A was alright, Pack B is a real winner. Not only does it have a Batman focused theme but it also features three completely new figures and two repaints. No straight repacks to be found here! Jada Toys is treating Batman's roster of villains quite well and even adds another member to the lineup of the DC Rebirth Justice League of America, Batman's personal pet project. Let's take a closer look at this new 5-pack after the break...

Something Has Survived: Velociraptor "Blue" (Battle Damage) from Jurassic World by Mattel

It's time for another Jurassic World review from Mattel's new line for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom! Today I'm checking out Velociraptor "Blue" as the packaging calls her. Blue is the most prominent of the four raptors Christ Pratt has trained in Jurassic World and the most unique looking thanks to her cool blue stripe. There are at least two versions of a standard adult Blue available right now that I'm aware of: This "Battle Damage" version and a standard "Attack Pack" version. The articulation is much more limited on the "Attack Pack" Blue, so I went for this one from the "Battle Damage" collection which I believe is limited to Wal-Mart. What is with stores getting full ranges of exclusive product these days? Target has the entire Legacy Collection as exclusives and Wal-Mart has the "Battle Damage" figures and I believe a few other products as exclusives as well. Blue is a prominent character (and one of the heroes) of Jurassic World and should play as equally an important role in Fallen Kingdom. Ready to check out one of the Blue figures available? Then join me after the break...

Minifigure Review: Pack A (Series 4) from DC Nano Metalfigs by Jada Toys

I just wrapped up reviewing series 4 of the DC Nano Metalfigs a week or two ago and now I'm checking out the two 5-packs released alongside of series 4. First up is the subject of today's review, Pack A. Pack A is focused on Superman and his villains and it includes one new sculpt, two repaints, and two repacks. It's easily the less exciting of the two 5-packs due to the presence of so many reused sculpts but there is still quite a bit of coolness here, especially considering these things only cost about $5 each. Want to check out this new set? Then join me after the break...

Something Has Survived!: Mosasaurus from Jurassic World by Mattel

I just rewatched Jurassic World a day or so ago and I still really enjoy the film. Having just rewatched all of the films again (including The Lost World for the first time in almost 20 years) I'm definitely willing to place Jurassic World as my second favorite film in the franchise, only behind the original (although I have a lot of love for Jurassic Park III). Not only does it further the concept of the first film but it offers up some more science fictional/ scientific ethics food for though. Sure, it's still an action film but Jurassic World, while having some very similar beats to the original film, asks some questions and explores some new ground that the sequels didn't. Plus it's a darn fun film that I find to be legitimately frightening at times. One of the scariest parts of the film for me is the Mosasaurus, a giant underwater creature. Giant underwater creatures just freak me out! What's pretty crazy is that in Hasbro's ill-fated original Jurassic World movie line the only Mosasaurus made was fairly small. While the packaging doesn't reference this, Mattel's new Jurassic World line is actually designed to coincide with the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom even though it includes creatures and characters from multiple films. I'm hoping the Mosasaurus makes a pretty significant appearance in Fallen Kingdom as I love the creature. Let's check out her new toy after the break...

Action Figure Review: 4-LOM from Star Wars: The Black Series Phase III by Hasbro

I actually procured 4-LOM the day Solo: A Star Wars Story was released but it's just taken me a few weeks to get to him. The fourth member of The Empire Strikes Back bounty hunters to be released, 4-LOM is definitely one of the most wanted figures of 2018. Hopefully this year will see us completing the sextet as Dengar should be coming out in a future series later this year and Zuckuss, who was once planned to be a Toys 'R Us exclusive, apparently has now been picked up by another retailer. There's still just something insanely captivating about the group of bounty hunters gathered by Darth Vader aboard the Executor and the prospect of completing them has me majorly excited. 4-LOM is included as part of the second series of figures released for the Solo film and is one only two new figures in the case of eight (Qi'ra is the other) meaning that unless Hasbro repacks this guy down the road he is probably going to be difficult to find. Seriously, Hasbro: You really should have double packed this guy! Original Trilogy figure + Empire Strikes Back + bounty hunter equals hot commodity! Let's check out the lovable 4-LOM after the break...

Something Has Survived!: Carnotarus (Action Attack) from Jurassic World by Mattel

I'm checking out another Jurassic World toy today and this time it's the Carnotaurus! While Carnotaurus didn't appear in any of the Jurassic Park films directly, Carnotaurus DNA is a part of the genetic makeup for the Indominus Rex from Jurassic World. The Carnotaurus has shown up in the trailers for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, however, so the "meat-eating bull" is finally getting a chance to appear on the silver screen. Well, in a Jurassic Park film, anyways. The Carnotaurus appeared in the 2000 film Dinosaur which means lots of folks are pretty familiar with this species. I gotta admit, I'm pretty excited to see this one in the film. This version is the Action Attack Carnotaurus, which is Mattel's name for larger dinosaurs that feature traditional action features. Ready for a closer look at the Carnotaurus? Then let's check it out after the break...

Something Has Survived!: Island Transport Team from Matchbox: Jurassic World by Mattel

Since I reviewed the Legacy Collection Jurassic Park vehicles on Friday, today I'm checking out the Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom focused Island Transport Team set. Included are five Matchbox vehicles in one pack. While all five of these vehicles are available on single-packed cards, that version of the Armored Action Truck has a very different paintjob. I guess that means this set has an exclusive then? These are available at all stores, unlike the Island Explorers set which is only available at Target. Let's check out these vehicles after the break...

Action Figure Review: The Joker: Deluxe Edition from One:12 Collective DC Universe by Mezco

For the first time in quite a while I'm getting a Mezco One:12 Collective review out in a timely manner! Today I'm checking out the Mezco exclusive figure of The Joker: Deluxe Edition. Last year Mezco released their own take on Batman's most famous nemesis and while it was a solid action figure, it certainly was lacking in some ways. While Mezco didn't fix all of the problems with the figure, they did release this deluxe edition that adds in lots of cool extras. I mean lots. This figure isn't as loaded down as the Fully Loaded Punisher figure, but it is close and feels like one of the most deluxe releases in the line to date. Being a huge fan of the Joker, I preordered this one right away. Since I reviewed the basic figure last year, which shares the general overall body and style of this figure, I have reused some of the text from that review. While you certainly may want to check out that older review for a comparison, I've tried to point out what is new here by using italics. If it is written in italics than I'm talking about something that is new and unique to this figure or that differs from the previous release. How does that sound? Ready to show that you "love that Joker?" Then join me after the break...

Something Has Survived!: Island Explorers from Matchbox: Jurassic World: Legacy Collection by Mattel

I've mentioned in previous reviews that Mattel's Jurassic World toyline (which is largely based on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, to be clear) has a Legacy Collection subset available exclusively at Target, the Matchbox line also has a Legacy Collection subset at Target as well. Based on vehicles from three of the four Jurassic Park films, the Island Explorers set offers up the iconic cars from the original film, the two possibly memorable vehicles from the Lost World, and a maintenance truck from Jurassic World. To be honest, it's a pretty nice collection and considering that you pay around a buck a car, it's pretty appealing for Jurassic Park fans and collectors of entertainment cars. Just for your information, these cars are available separately on single cards, but picking up the full set it definitely easier. Let's check out the Island Explorers set of Matchbox vehicles after the break...

Confirmed Epic Podcast Retro Rewind #23: Robocop (2014)

*This podcast originally aired on February 17th 2014, and is part of our Retro Rewind initiative to publish our back catalog of episodes for our listeners!

In Episode 23 of The Confirmed Epic Podcast we review one of our most anticipated films of Winter/Spring 2014: Jose Padilha’s Robocop Remake.

We also get into what we have been checking out: The original Star Wars, Trilogy, Frank Miller’s Robocop 2 graphic novel, The Jason Bateman and Jennifer Anniston film Switch, The Sacha Baron Cohen film The Dictator, and the epic PC game Civ 5.

In Epic News we discuss: Star Wars: The Clone Wars coming to Netflix March 7th,  FOX’s upcoming Gotham TV Show, Spiderman’s upcoming brand new origin comic: Learning to Crawl by Dan Slott, and The Wonder Year’s finally coming to DVD sometime in 2014.

Action Figure Review: Batman: Ascending Knight (Mezco Exclusive) from One:12 Collective: DC Universe by Mezco

I've actually had the Mezco exclusive Batman Day 2017 Batman: Ascending Knight figure for over a month now but I held off on reviewing him. Initially it was because I wanted to review the standard version first and then I was busy reviewing Solo and Jurassic Park stuff. I'm not finally getting a chance to review this exclusive black and gold variant of Ascending Knight Batman and I'll just go ahead and say that I really do think I prefer this one to the standard. I like the standard figure (I gave it an Epic rating) but the black and gold color scheme just works really, really well here. Since this figure is really just a color variant I'm reusing my review of the basic figure here with all new pictures. For those places where the paint scheme is different, I'm including new thoughts and comments in italics! That way you can just check out the original review and then skim this one if you'd like. Let's crack this one open and check it out after the break...

Minifigure Review: Batwoman (DC61) from DC Nano Metalfigs by Jada Toys

It has taken me a little over a month but I'm finally finishing my reviews of series 4 of the DC Nano Metalfigs from Jada Toys. Guess who I've saved for last? Well, I actually reviewed these in order of the series numbers, so she's the highest numbered yet, but guess who came in last? Batwoman! Batwoman is one of my favorite DC characters which means she is one of my favorite superheroes overall. She's easily in my top 10, just FYI. Anyways, Batwoman was the figure I was most looking forward to in this series so I'm excited to finally look her over. Let's check her out after the break...

Something Has Survived!: Indoraptor from Jurassic World by Mattel

If you're looking at a fresh display of Mattel's Jurassic World action figures, the most striking figure you are likely to see is the Indoraptor. Packaged in a blue and grey box that differs from nearly everything else in the line the Indoraptor really jumps off of the shelf at you visually. It's black, sleek, and unlike most any other Jurassic Park creature you've ever seen. Possibly most loosely related to the Indominus Rex from Jurassic World, the Indoraptor seems to be the primary dino antagonist from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Another specially designed hybrid dinosaur, the Indoraptor seems to be extremely terrifying in more than just a "big and deadly" way. The design of the Indoraptor seems genuinely creepy. Since he's supposed to be the main baddie of the new flick Mattel has released the Indoraptor as an incredibly well articulated action figure that stands out from the pack. Let's check out this cool guy after the break...

Minifigure Review: Cyborg (DC60) from DC Nano Metalfigs by Jada Toys

With the release of the Justice League Cyborg in series 4 Jada Toys has now released five of the DCEU Justice League members in the Nano Metalfigs. Guess who the sixth member they've left out is? Wonder Woman! How? How? Jada Toys has released quite a few Wonder Woman figures, too, so it's odd they've left out the Gal Gadot version. It can't be written off as being a "because she's a girl" attitude because they've released multiple Wonder Woman and Harley figures as well as multiple other female characters. How strange! Maybe they figure she'll be a selling point for series 5? Still, adding Victor Stone in is a nice touch. Appearing in two of the DCEU films (counting his cameo in BvS) Cyborg is probably tied with Aquaman thus far for having the fewest on-screen appearances thus far. Of course, Cyborg is doing just fine for himself as he appears on Teen Titans Go, which kids are nuts about. I'm pretty sure that show airs all day long. This figure is based on Ray Fisher's performance of the character. Let's check it out after the break...

Something Has Survived!: Dimorphodon (Attack Pack) from Jurassic World by Mattel

This guy is a nasty looking little creature, isn't he? I'm really digging the Jurassic World line from Mattel and the Dimorphodon was actually one of the first figures I picked up from it. This little pterosaur is one of the craziest looking figures available in the Jurassic World line and absolutely captured my attention the first time I saw these toys in stores. Dimorphodon is one of the smaller "Attack Pack" figures but is perhaps the most well articulated. Let's check this little flying creature after the break...

Minifigure Review: Bane (DC59) from DC Nano Metalfigs by Jada Toys

Today I'm checking out another character who is new to the Nano Metalfigs line: Bane! First appearing in January 1993, Bane is a character who has really grown in popularity over the past 25 years. I love Bane and I feel a special affinity for the character as he's a Batman villain who I remember coming on to the scene and whose popularity I got the chance to witness first hand. I remember the firs Bane action figure being released in the Batman: The Animated Series toyline and seeing the character in the trailer for a ...........Batman movie that I seem to have repressed (Editor's Note: Barbecue17 will never mention the name of a 1997 Batman film. Never.). Anyways, he's a major Batman antagonist and I love seeing him in this line. I really hope Jada Toys continues to put out more comic based releases as they all turn out great. Let's check out Bane after the break...
