The Curse of 31 Days of Toy Terror: Creature from the Closet from Monster in My Pocket by Matchbox

Another one of my childhood Monster in My Pocket figures gets to be the star of The Curse of 31 Days of Toy Terror today and it's the Creature from the Closet. While Monster in Pocket specialized at creating figures based off of actual world legends and folklore elements, they also occasionally offered up some more "generic" figures. One of the more interesting ones is the Creature from the Closet from the Super Scary series. Based on the common childhood (and sometimes adult) fear of something lurking in your closet, the Creature from the Closet is a stereotypical monster with a broken piece of closet frame wrapped around the neck. You think this guy works for Monsters, Inc.? Let's take a closer look at this Super Scary MIMP after the break...

 The Facts:

Height: 1 7/8ths inches

Monster Number: 106

Original year of Release: 1991
 * I love the pose on this guy. He stands easily and looks like he is ready for battle. While the concept of the Monster in My Pocket figures was that you battled them against each other (you might say they were the original Pokemon/ Pocket Monsters), not all of them looked ready to rumble. The Creature from the Closet does, though. The bright purple is pretty pleasing and I'm also digging the crosshatched texture on the Creature's skin.

* The Super Scary series featured some paint highlights and the Creature from the Closet features a hideous yellow face and a green closet doorway wrapped around his neck, kind of like an ox yoke. Pretty wild design, really.
The Creature from the Closet has long been one of my favorites MIMPs. I love the design, the pose, and the coloring. While this looks nothing like anything like what I imagined was in my closet, it's still a pretty cool idea and shows off some of the creativity that went into this line. I'd love to see Monster in My Pocket have a true revival someday but, for now, I'll live in the spooky glorious past with the classic MIMPs. This is an Epic Monster in My Pocket and well worth tracking down.

I've reviewed other Monster in My Pocket minifigures, including:

Astaroth
Drude
Dybbuk
Ghost
Karnak
Mad Gasser of Mattoon
Mad Scientist
Skeleton
