Minifigure Review: Zodak from Masters of the Universe: Eternia Minis by Mattel

The third and final review in my mini Masters of the Universe: Eternia Minis marathon is Zodac, the neutral Cosmic Enforcer. While Zodac did appear in the 2014 Matty Collector exclusive Masters of the Universe Minis line (packaged alongside "Biff" Beast Man) this figure is a completely new sculpt that seems to represent a more Filmation inspired version of Zodac. Zodac was never one of my favorites as a kid but as I've gotten older I've really come to appreciate the unusual role he plays in Masters of the Universe. Think he'll show up in part 2 of Masters of the Universe: Revelation this week? Only a few more days until we find out. In the meantime let's check out the Eternia Minis Zodac after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 2 1/8ths inches

Articulation: Swivel waist, swivel shoulders, and a balljointed head.

Accessories: Laser pistol

Non-Scalper Price: $5 dollars

Comparison:

* The new Zodac is on the left while the 2014 MOTU Minis Zodac is on the right. There is no reuse at all here so far as I can tell. Even the blaster and the headsculpt are different.

The Positives:

* Zodac is really bright here and his red armor and white gloves really stand out nicely. He's sporting the weird three-toed boots and the arm fins, too, which just makes ol' Zodac even more mysterious. The W shaped Cosmic Enforcer symbol on his armor looks fantastic as well. Maybe we're now closer to getting Wun-Dar in Eternia Minis?

* I love Zodac's helmet. It's very cool and has a great retro sci-fi aesthetic that I just love. The paint work is really sharp on such a small portrait and the range of motion on his balljointed head is way better than most other figures in the line.

*  These little guys have four points of articulation which may not seem like a lot except you gotta consider they're only a little over 2 inches tall. That's not bad for that scale! They're very durable little figures and would probably fit in well with lines like Imaginext and the Hasbro Heroes figures, so if you have a little one who's into MOTU these could be some decent starter toys. They're fun to play with and have a lot of shelf presence!

* Zodac's super cool laser pistol with the flared barrel looks great. It's a unique, eye-catching design and Zodac looks fantastic sporting it.

Zodac is a Great minifiugre and one of my favorites of the year. He really is quite cool with a great paintjob, an excellent portrait, and a really cool accessories. Some of the standard MOTU Eternia Minis figures have been tougher to find since not many stores carry them and Mattel seems to now be shipping mostly the Revelation branded minis so you may have to resort to online to track Zodac down. He's definitely worth adding to the collection and a real upgrade to the previous release. While the paintjob seems simpler it just looks better overall, as does the sculpt.

If you're a fan of Zodac I've also reviewed the Super7 M.U.S.C.L.E. Zodac, the Colorforms Deluxe Play Set, The Loyal Subjects Zodac Action Vinyl, the MOTU Origins Zodac, the Mega Construx Panthor at Point Dread set which includes a Zodak minifigure, and the Eternia Minis Horde Zombie Zodac from the Slime Pit Multipack.

  1. That's a great list of minis so far. Reminds me of the Marvel Super Hero Squad. So much fun even with little to no articulation. Just pure fun.

  2. I know this is old but I was doing research on Zodac and one of the results brought me back here. It's curious that in Filmation, Revolution and the original concept are, the middle of the Zodac's helmet is gray but almost all the toys leave it red like the main dome part (even the New Eternia one). But here on this mini, it's gray as part of making it different to the double pack one. Very cool. I've painted the gray parts and the middle bit on my NE figure to be dark metallic silver now trying to make him look more like Revolution Zodac (whom even has the 'skirt' bit the NE figure added) and I like it a lot more than before. :)

    1. Ahh! I haven't gotten to Zodac in Revolution yet. But I'm darn glad that he appears.

    2. Dammit. Sorry for the spoiler. I'm an idiot. I thought he'd already appeared in Revelation, but it was the Masterverse comic (where he interacted with Revelation Sorceress) that I was remembering.

Also his voice actor is a bit of a horror icon and one of my fave voices from the Justice League cartoon. I won't say who. But if you're a fan of his like I am... :)
