Action Figure Review: Alvin "Breaker" Kibbey from G.I. Joe: Classified Series by Hasbro

Looking for today's 31 Days of Toy Terror post for October 2025? Just look below this one! I've still got to mix some regular toy reviews in with the spooky stuff!

I might be posting some newer stuff here, sure, but when it comes to G.I. Joe: Classified Series I'm a few months behind. Hasbro has been absolutely hammering us with stuff lately! In the past week I've received so much Joe stuff with more on the way. Today I'm looking at the current Target exclusive Alvin "Breaker" Kibbey who is a but more of a classic take on the character compared to the Target exclusive from 2021 that included the RAM Cycle. Target's got the monopoly on Braker, apparently. I actually found this guy in July while on vacation at Myrtle Beach, SC, and I ended up grabbing another one online. I rarely buy two of one figure but Breaker's one of my favorites and I wanted to be able to use both of his portraits. Ready to check out the Joe team's original Communications Officer from Gatlinburg, TN? The join me after the break...

Comparison:

* Here's a quick comparison shot between this Breaker (left) and the 2021 Breaker with the RAM Cycle. Both figures have a lot of design similarities though they don't use any of the same parts. The recent Breaker borrows heavily from Grunt and Rock 'n Roll, so he ties in nicely with most of the original 13 releases. The portraits on these two Breaker figures are very different, not really looking like the same guy. Maybe the previous Breaker could be Sparks?

The Positives:

* Breaker really looks fantastic. This is a fairly classic take on Breaker, sure, but he does have enough cool upgrades that he feels modern and not stuck in the 1980s. He's also a fairly nice melding of the vintage toy, the animated appearance, and his comic book look. He's wearing a greenish outfit like most of the Original 13 (almost a gray color)but he's sporting a vest with lots of storage and armored bits and plenty of pouches and such for carrying goodies. He really does borrow a lot from Grunt, but that works for me. I do like some consistency with the Original 13.

* I really like Breaker's portrait. He's got shorter hair, a shorter bears; he's not incredibly clean cut or anything but not a mountain man like Outback, even though he is from the mountain town of Gatlinburg, TN. It's a good sculpt for Breaker and I actually like it a lot better than the previous figure. Breaker's a pretty confident guy and this figure definitely looks like he's not easily phased when in a fight.

* His helmet is a bit different from the previous helmets included with other O13 Joes, though it is very similar to Colonel Hawk's who just was released with the MMS (Hawk's just has holes for a visor while Breaker's doesn't. It's a solid helmet with some communications equipment built right in, including a microphone and earpiece.

* The second portrait shows Breaker blowing a bubble while chewing his trademark bubblegum. That was a great character trait from the comic and it even helped the Joes once (one time Breaker helped trick Cobra into believing an unarmed tank was actually firing at them by using a sound amplifier/ megaphone to enhance the sound of Breaker's bubbles popping. The 25th Anniversary Breaker figure has a clear plastic bubble that fit over the microphone but this one is part of the portrait. It looks great, too, with that bright pink color.

* Like Grunt, Breaker's vest is covered with goodies. He's got a Joe-Pro device, his name tag with rank (it says A. Kibbey, E-4), plenty of pouches for additional magazines or gear, and what looks like a tablet or an oversized phone on his chest. I recently saw one of these in a military ad and it's apparently called an Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK). It's a software system for improving the situational awareness of troops which helps with tactical information sharing among personnel. Pretty cool! It seems pretty current and like something the Joes would definitely utilize.

* The screen does fold down and has some sort of readout on it. It is removable, too. It's a little finicky but it works.

* There's a larger black pouch that fits over Breaker's left hip for carrying extra equipment and supplies.

* There's another pouch for his left hip. Could be extra magazines for his pistol, I suppose. Or king sized candy bars.

* The back of the vest shows off the MOLLE system attachment points.

* I love the articulation on the Classified Series line and Breaker is another solid release. Plentiful joints, a great range of motion, and very solid quality control. He looks good delivering messages, intercepting calls, and using his weapon when he needs to start throwing bullets instead of signals.

* Breaker's backpack is quite well done. It's a more traditional radio pack, though I'm sure there's a lot of gear in here for Breaker to use in the field. While there are so many forms of communication available it seems that the military does still use manpack radios in operations.

* The antenna on the back left does rotate and there's a removable cord which connects the radio right into the back of Breaker's helmet, similar to how the vintage figure connected to the accessory.

* We've seen this pistol and suppressor combination before and it's one of my favorites. It's a nicely detailed pistol equipped with an extended magazine. It's nothing too special or futuristic; just a standard, reliable weapon with a few extra rounds in the mag. The box suppressor fits on well and looks really good attached. It helps keeps things quieter when Breaker needs to make an important call, too.

* This little basic knife is getting uses a lot lately. It's not always my favorite, but it works well with these O13 guys.

* It's also small enough that it can be held in a shoulder sheath, which y'all know I'm nuts about. I freaking love shoulder sheathes for knives.

* Breaker, the Snake Eyes & Polar Bear set, and the G.I. Joe Diver vs. Cobra Diver set have the M.A.S.S. Device logo on them as each figure comes with one of the M.A.S.S. device elements from the animated series which were required to run the device. Breaker comes with some of the dust from a meteorite that was located in the Ring of Fire volcano in the Devil's Cauldron in South America.

* The meteorite dust and it's container are pretty intricate as you can remove the dome and the meteorite dust. I wonder if we'll get a M.A.S.S. device in the Classified Series? If the container looks familiar, the container itself originally came with the 2022 SDCC exclusive Dr. Mindbender.

* The holster on Breaker's back left does his pistol fairly well. The magazine sticks out a bit, but that happens with extended magazines.

The Negatives:

* Unfortunately, there's really no place to put the suppressor. When this belt was used on grunt the little pouch on the back hold the magazine for his rifle, but it's not really designed for the suppressor. I put it there for a pic, but it's goofy.

* The knife handle also interferes with the tablet folding down, or does the tablet interfere with the knife coming out of the sheath? Both. It's both.

This Breaker just really works for me. It's an excellent take on the character that manages to feel classic while also not feeling outdated. Good accessories, two portraits (especially that cool bubblegum blowing portrait), and the M.A.S.S. Device piece. He's an Epic figure and I really had a pretty easy time finding him this summer. I saw him online and found him multiple times in stores. Did everyone else get him pretty easily? He's an Epic figure and makes a great addition to the Original 13. I mean, we already had a Breaker, but I do like this one a bit more and I can use the other one as another character.
