The Incredible Shrinking 31 Days of Toy Terror: Dr. Loomis (Halloween II) from Universal Horror Classics Tiny Mights by CultureFly

CultureFly has released some very cool retro inspired minifigures over the past few years in their Tiny Mights line and I was absolutely shocked to find a new series of them during a trip to Five Below back in mid July. This newest series is called Universal Horror Classics, though it's not based on the Universal Classic Horror/ Universal Monsters films and characters. Instead, these are based on characters from some of Universal's post 1980 films that are largely unrelated to the Universal Classic Horror period which ran from 1923 through 1960. I say largely unrelated because the DNA of The Wolf Man is definitely present in 1981's An American Werewolf in London, which is one of the films represent in these minis. The other are Child's Play 3, Bride of Chuck, They Live, and Halloween II. Today I'm looking specifically at Dr. Loomis from Halloween II. These guys are available in 3-packs that look like little VHS tapes and in single packed capsules. I found the capsules at Five Below and initially snagged what I could find. Each mini can be had in multiple colorways, so there are twelve separate sculpts with at least 10 different colors available. Ready to check out a diminutive Donald Pleasance for your collection? Then join me after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 1 and 3/4ths inches

Non-Scalper Price: $2 dollars

The Positives:

* I absolutely love this little Dr. Samuel Loomis! Who doesn't want a tiny psychiatrist to hang around with your M.U.S.C.L.E. and Monster in My Pocket figures? This figure of Dr. Loomis is molded in a yellowish-green that kind of reminds me of the green color scheme used by some Monster in My Pocket figures, though with more yellow. The sculpt is crisp and sharp with even little details like the button on Loomis' vest and the buttonholes on his jacket visible.

* The caricatured appearance of Loomis is pretty well done, too. He's definitely recognizable and has some fairly detailed hair. CultureFly's designers really did a good job capturing the vintage minifigure vibe as the material feels right (not too hard, not too rubbery) and the proportions are great with some oversized hands and feet that keep him standing against the onslaught of monster attacks.

* First of all, I like the lighter with a little flame in Loomis' right hand. Since Universal distributed Halloween II, it's typically the movie you see more merchandising for, and Loomis with the lighter is from the finale of that film. His left hand is spread out to deliver a crushing slap to Michael Myers in the grand ol' M.U.S.C.L.E. tradition, so that's pretty fun, too. Dr. Loomis isn't just standing around analyzing people here; he's ready to deliver a Halloween smackdown.

This is a really cool minifigure! When I first stumbled upon these guys I only found Dr. Loomis from Halloween II (both Michael Myers figures and Laurie Strode were missing). Still, who doesn't want Loomis? "My name is Pleasance, and I am funky!"
Funky, indeed. This is a cool minifigure with a solid build, a pretty impressive likeness, and a lighter for causing trouble. Halloween II M.U.S.C.L.E./ M.I.M.P. styled minis weren't on my bingo card for this year, but I'm pretty excited that they exist. This is a Great minifigure from a line that's going to get a lot of attention this season.
