Wrapping Up 2024: David "Crazylegs" Thomas (Night Force) from G.I. Joe: Classified Series by Hasbro

Since I'm wrapping up the figures from 2025 that I received over the past month or so, it's time to start looking at some more G.I. Joe: Classified Series figures. Today I'm very excited to be checking out one of the stretch goals from the HasLab Dragonfly (XH-1): David "Crazylegs" Thomas in his Night Force gear. While we're almost guaranteed to get a standard Crazylegs figure at some point soon wearing his classic red and grey outfit (likely just a repaint of this figure), I was really excited for this guy as I love Night Force (in the Classified Series it might be eclipsing Tiger Force for me) and Crazylegs is the only one of the four Dragonfly figures that I had as a kid. Well, I had the original, not the Night Force repaint. Still, I've always liked the figure. Back in the day you could even send crush a Crazylegs Valentine! Crazylegs hasn't had many figures over the years (just the two from the vintage line, a Pursuit of Cobra update in 2011, and a Night Force parachute drop convention figure in 2014). Maybe that's just because he's not the most popular guy or doesn't stand out that much, but it could also be because he was one of the Joes who was actually killed in the Marvel series. Crazylegs was killed by a Cobra Maggot alongside Breaker and Quick-Kick. Bummer. It's nice to know that all those guys are still alive in the Classified Series, though, as Crazylegs still has plenty of missions ahead of him. Let's check him out after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 6 1/4th inches

Articulation: Swivel/ hinge ankles, boot swivels, double hinged knees, swivel thighs, ball jointed drop down hips, ball jointed waist, balljointed mid-torso, butterfly pecs, swivel/hinge shoulders, bicep swivels, double hinged elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, ball jointed neck base, and a barbell jointed head.

Accessories: Helmet, 2 pair of goggles, ballcap, knife, pistol, parachute harness, backpack, submachinegun, stock, holster, and magazine.

Non-Scalper Price: N/A- Stretch Goal with the Dragonfly (XH-1) HasLab.

The Positives:

* Overall Crazylegs is very similar to the vintage Night Force figure though his gear has certainly been updated and there's more detail here than ever before. Crazylegs has always sportied an interesting jumpsuit with a quilted look to it. I presume that's both for padding and heat when parachuting into battle. The OD green harness and belt he's sporting are separate pieces (though not removable) and have some unique textures of their own. He's also sporting a few flashes of red on the chest harness and red pockets on his sleeves. It's a good look for sure.

* The vintage Crazylegs didn't have a removable helmet so all you could see was his face, which looked pretty happy. This take on Crazylegs looks a bit more reserved with a simple short haircut and just a but of stubble. It's a solid headsculpt. Nothing too out there; just your average Joe.

* A new element the Classified Series team has added is a red baseball cap. Rather than just a cool looking ballcap, this is actually a real item that helps personnel identify a parachute rigger immediately when involved in an airborne operation. Pretty neat extra as Crazylegs' SMS has always been Parachute Rigger.

I wonder if we'll see this included with Hardball?

* There are two pair of goggles included with Crazylegs. The first set has a bit larger of a strap and easily fits around the rigger's cap. I assume they're meant to go around his helmet, too, but you might need a bit of heat to make that work.

* A second pair of goggles is included which fits over Crazylegs' eyes. Or up on his forehead.

* They fit on his head while he's wearing his helmet, too. The helmet has a chin strap and lots of detail to show off that it's well armored. While no night vision goggles are included, there is an "attachment point" on the front of the helmet.

* A harness for his parachute is also included. The straps are fairly easy to use and put over the figure, giving him a harness that can be quickly ditched when he hits the ground and begins to assault an enemy position. The harness doesn't inhibit too much as it, though, and he looks pretty cool wearing it as it bulks him up a bit more.

* Crazylegs is sporting the the griffin logo on his right shoulder. This seems to be a symbol for the Night Force unit and it makes for a cool little unifying detail for most of the team. He's also sporting a couple grenades hanging from the gear on his chest. They're not removable, but they do look cool.

* To help him skydive into battle and complete his rig, Crazylegs comes with a parachute container. There's no parachute, nor does pack open. It's simply a sculpted backpack with a visible red static line coming out the top.

* When it comes to articulation, I don't really have much unique to say about Crazylegs over most other Classified Series figures: He's a mostly new figure with a great range of movement (even wearing his rig) and plentiful joints. I've heard a few folks mention some problems with his hips but I haven't had any issues, and I've messed around with this guy a lot over the past month or so.

* Crazylegs' primary weapon looks to be based on the H&K UMP. It's not exact, but it looks pretty similar. Hasbro often kind of creates their weapons from multiple real world sources, so if anyone recognizes another inspiration for this gun let me know. It also kind of looks like an LWRC SMG-45. It has the barrel tip removed, so you can add a suppressor on it, and an added optic on the top. It also has a hinged stock. The vintage toy had an unusual carbine with a removable stock, but this one (while removable), stays attached securely and folds out nicely.

* Here's a shot of the weapon with the magazine removed and the stock folded up. Pretty cool stuff!

* Crazylegs' sidearm looks like a pretty standard pistol to me. I don't recognize it as being anything specific. It's realistic looking, mind you, but also generic. Still, it's a good sidearm and has a hollow barrel for attaching effects or suppressors.

* His pistol fits very nicely in the removable holster on his right thigh.

* Crazylegs also comes with a knife. It's a smaller knife but it seems useful for close encounters and cutting ropes and such.

* It's also very conveniently placed right in this sheath on his harness. If he gets stuck in a tree or something while landing, this oughta help cut him down.

How's Crazylegs? He's incredible. Sure, he's a simple, kind of basic figure in terms of design, but he's got everything a good G.I. Joe: Classified Series figure has: A few different display options, the ability to carry his gear and weapons, an SMG with a folding stock and a removable magazine, and a cool color scheme. He was a stretch goal for the Dragonfly campaign (the third tier, at 19,000 backers), and while we'll most surely get the basic Crazylegs, this Night Force one is a pretty swell addition to the team. He's an Epic figure that just does everything right and comes with a lot more gear than you realize at first glance.

This is the first figure of David "Crazylegs" Thomas that I've reviewed. For more G.I. Joe: Classified Series reviews check out the following:

  2. Not feeling this one. Without his usual colour scheme he looks really generic and bland to me. :/

    1. He does look less specific, but he's still a great paratrooper figure and looks awesome with the rest of Night Force. Military figures do often look a bit generic, but the little details like the hinged stock and stuff really appeal to me.
