Batgirl Review: Batgirl 1/24 from DC Universe Mystery Minis by Funko

 

  I don't know what it is about blind boxed/ bagged stuff, but there's something really exciting about it. Maybe it's the modern day equivalent of getting cool little toys from gumball machines. I love that, except when you're trying to get a specific figure or character. Thus was the case with the new DC Universe Mystery Minis by Funko. Featuring a cool roster of Batman centric characters including Batman himself, Catwoman, the Joker (both comic and Ledger), Penguin, Riddler, and of course Batgirl in a variety of poses, while I like all of those characters the only figure I really wanted for my collection was one of the three Batgirl figures. Fortunately, I managed to pick one up on E-bay so I knew what I was getting. These vinyl figures are fun and stylized like Funko's Pop! figures but are smaller. Ready for a look at one?    These come blind boxed in a colorful little box featuring graphics of all the characters. On the back of the box you can see every figure in the line as well as the rarity of each figure. My Batgirl one to every 24 boxes, and there are two other versions of her (one packaged 1/18 and another 1/72). She's a vinyl figure with a large head, painted features, and only one point of articulation: a swivel head. Since she's in a cool pose where she's showing off a bit you might think she'd be tough to stand up with her tiny body and inflated head, but she stands just fine.

  

      While some of the details are painted on, there are lots of nice sculpted details as well. Batgirl's cape flares out from her back and her boots, gloves, and belt are all raised, sculpted elements. I love how her fingers are spread out in a pose that's fitting for the silver aged Dominoed Daredoll. Most of the paint work is great, especially on the head. The minimalist style nicely conveys Babs' smirk and sly look. The blue, gray, and yellow perfectly combine to create a very classic look. The only problem with paint that I have is that some of the paint divisions are rough. The left boot and the hair coming out of the cowl both have some really sloppy paintwork. Holy transitions!

  

 I really like this little figure, though. She's a lot of fun, especially for a vinyl mini. I'm glad I opted to simply pick her up on her own rather than try to hunt her down as that may have taken awhile. I'm giving her a Good and a 1/2 I wish the paint were a bit better in a few places, but the sculpt, pose, and style are pretty cool. As always, it's neat to add another Batgirl to the collection, especially one this fun. If you're a Batman fan in general and looking for a cool little collectible for your desk or curio cabinet, I don't think you could go wrong with any of these. Grabbing a blind box might be a fun and thrilling experience! Now, do I want to track the other two Batgirl figures down...
