A New Batgirl Review: Batgirl from DC Comics Lil Bombshells by Cryptozoic Entertainment

 Today starts the long journey of reviewing series 2 of Cryptozoic Entertainment's DC Comics Lil Bombshells (with plenty of Star Wars reviews mixed in to keep things fresh). Series 2 once again has ten unique figures in it along with two variants (specially repainted versions of Batgirl and Supergirl). I'm a huge fan of the Bombshells and I love this series of minifigures: It's a great way to be able to show off all of the unique character designs without breaking the bank on the statues (I own seven of those, so I'm by no means a completest on the series). Today I'm starting things off with a review of Bombshells Batgirl. I actually reviewed the Batgirl statue a few years ago and, I have to confess, it's one of my least favorites in the Bombshells series. I feel like this minifigure manages to bypass all of the problems that one had, though. Let's dive in to series 2 after the break...

 The Facts:

Height: 3 inches

Articulation: None

Non-Scalper Price: $10 dollars

 * Batgirl's design is meant to evoke an old school aviatrix and it looks like Cryptozoic nailed it. While some of the minifigures in this line have taken quite a few liberties with the source material, Batgirl adheres quite faithfully to the look of her statue. I love the pose, too; it's very reminiscent of some of the publicity stills Yvonne Craig took in her role as Batgirl for the 1966 Batman TV series.  The paintwork is neat and clean all across the board, down to the little mole on her right cheek. I also really like the decision to make the goggles opaque. They really look better that way.

* From the back of the figure you can see Babs' red ponytail poking out of her hood, the leather strap on her goggles, and the parachute she's sporting. The edge of her cape actually appears to be protruding from the parachute pack.

 * I'll give the same spiel about the price and the container that I gave with earlier figures in this line: I don't usually talk much about price but l feel the need to mention that for around $10, these seem a couple of dollars too high for a blind-bagged series. Well, blind canned. Yeah, these actually come in little tins with removable lids. It's a cool gimmick although I imagine it's what is adding the extra few bucks to the line. The tin is quite nice, though, and looks good on display with the figure. There's even a checklist on the back. 

  Considering the look, scale, and style of minifigures, I think these are a hit. The price is still a bit too high but the product is definitely of a much higher quality than what you usually see in the minifigure market. I still think the can is raising the price, though. Batgirl is a really nice minifigure and seems to me to be one of the highlights of the series. Her nice design and excellent, clean paintwork make me willing to give her a Great rating, and she's probably the figure I'll judge all of series 2 off of just because!
