Happy May the 4th and May the Fourth Be With You! I didn't really prepare anything new for today but I did want to share a couple cool Star Wars things I've worked on in the past, most significantly this article I wrote back in 2013 about my first Star Wars toys. Check it out and have a great Star Wars Day!
(BTW, that nerdy looking kid in the picture above? That's your old pal Barbecue17 circa 1996 with my then very humble Star Wars collection.

Wow man you making me feel old! I was in my mid 20's in 1996 lol
ReplyDeleteYup, I'm a second generation Star Wars fan I guess. I became a fan due to the movie adaptations I read in 6th grade, so I was a fan before the prequels. Heck, I was a fan before Shadows of the Empire was released. I wonder if anyone has classified generations of Star Wars fans and how they're different? I feel like for those of us who became fans after the films were released but before the prequels and SOTE, the vintage figures hold a mysterious, magical quality, the early Expanded Universe tends to be a really big deal, and all of the guidebooks and obscure character names tend to be significant. Of course, the importance of POTF2, Micro Machines, and even the bendable figures cannot be overstated!
DeleteI saw the fist movie in the theater in 1978 right after I turned 6. I hardly remember going, I have a much better memory of seeing the empire strikes back and it feels like yesterday I saw Return of the Jedi. Its crazy to see the price on some of the figures that I remember looking at on the store shelves.
DeleteI was pushing 20!Sorry ,didn't mean to make you feel old again, lol!I'm not too far behind, anyway.Love that pic Barbecue!Man,that collection would have kept me locked away in my room for hours at at a time.
ReplyDeleteI still have nearly all of the pieces here, too! Some of the books got sold or traded away (to be replaced by dozens of others- I read EVERYTHING in the New Canon) and the poster disappeared along the way. Heck, my 2 year old owns more Star Wars stuff now than I did in that picture!
DeleteWe feel even older. (1963) we were almost 13 when we first saw Star Wars.
ReplyDeleteI was 13 when the Special Editions came out. LOL. It's OK! Just the other day was the 14 anniversary of AOTC and in one day it'll be the 11th anniversary of ROTS. BTW, have you seen Civil War yet? Spiderman has a great line in the film that made me think of this conversation about Star Wars and age!
