OK, I've got one more incredibly adorable review for 31 Days of Toy Terror Takes the Universe and this time it's Grump Bear as Frankenstein from Funko's POP! vinyl Care Bears X Universal Monsters line. I reviewed Bedtime Bear as the Mummy a few days ago and now I'm getting the chance to review this guy. Grumpy Bear is probably my favorite of the Care Bears and I love this combination of him and Frankenstein's Monster. His personality and expression just make this one work! I'm a little surprised that whoever was behind this design didn't try to find an already green Care Bear, but personality wise Grumpy Bear is the best fit. Ready for a review that's sure to make your day a bit grumpier? Than join me after the break...
The Facts:
Height: 4 inches
Articulation: Swivel head.
Accessories: None
Non-Scalper Price: $12 dollars
The Positives:
* Grumpy Bear as Frankenstein is a standard Funko POP! which means he has a swivel head and is just a little bit preposed. His feet are standing straight but his arms are positioned out to the side a bit with his hands paws open flat. You know, kind of like a Boris Karloff inspired Frankenstein walk. I like it.
* This guy is just so cute and cool that I just can't get over it! He's wearing a purple, ill-fitting jacket with lots of tattered edges and which shows off his belly bade. He's also got stitches on his face, too. And he's green. Grumpy Bear's fur is usually a darker blue, but this guy is green.
* The portrait is excellent. He's got a pronounced brow with his left eyebrow cocked up, a little green heart shaped nose, and even a scar on his forehead. He's also sporting some funky hair to give him that Frankie rizz.
* He also has staples in his ears and little bolts. Little bolts! This guy is just so cute and monstrous.
* First, Grump Bear's belly badge is stitched on. Second, the cloud's a little darker than usual. Third, instead of a heart he's got a lightning bolt. Lightning, like what helped bring Frankenstein's Monster to life. Brilliant!
* His tail is poking out from beneath his coat and he's sporting a little green hear on the back of his jacket. I love the little details here that really keep the Care Bear staples present here.
This guy is adorable! I love this Grumpy Bear as Frankenstein Funko POP! and he's easily my favorite from the set. There's no Wolf Man, sadly, but I'm not even sure a Wolf Man Care Bear could outrank Grumpy Bear as Frankenstein. This is just the cutest and craziest thing I've seen in a bit and I love it. He's a really fun little toy and while I have no idea how such a crossover as the Care Bears and the Universal Monsters came about, I'm glad it did. This is an Epic Funko POP! vinyl. I'm really hoping we see more in the future. I'm not terribly familiar with all of the Care Bears out there but I love the designs in this set.
