31 Days of Toy Terror Takes the Universe: Mole Man from Universal Monsters ReAction by Super7

We're looking at a deeper cut today (some might say deep enough to satisfy a Hollow Earth theorist), though one that's supposed  to be getting a remake soon: The Mole Man from the 1956 Universal Studios sci-fi horror film The Mole People! Are you looking for a "fabulous funny freak-out" about Sumerian albinos that worship the Babylonian goddess Ishtar deep within the earth and who use a race of enslaved mole people to harvest mushroom? A film that is so bizarre that is was featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000? A movie about the people who make that nice Mexican sauce? Then let's check out the Mole Man from Super7's Universal Monsters ReAction series. Let's dig in, after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 3 3/4ths

Articulation: Swivel hips, swivel shoulders, and a swivel neck.

Accessories: None

Original Retail Price: $18 dollars

Year of Release: 2018

The Positives:

* The Mole Man or Mole Person (cause calling him Mole People just doesn't sound right) adds another nice bit of sci-fi into your Universal Monsters ReAction display. This guy is really wild looking with bumpy yellow skin, large mole-like claws, and a trendy suit that looks a bit like a Mao suit or something. It definitely has that hardcore communist look to it. There's not a lot of color here, so I guess the Mole Man has that in common with Trotsky, too.

* The face is pretty incredible. It's a black and white movie, so it's tough to tell color in the film, but often these guys are depicted as being a bit more green or brown. Super7 went with a really funky brown mustard yellow, though, which I like. The mouth is bizarre and those eyes are pretty freaky. This guy would look great hanging out with the rest of the Universal Monsters crew (or maybe as a small squad of henchmen for them) or quaffing a beverage and hating on droids at the Creature Cantina.

* Holy moly! Look at the Mole Man's giant digging claws! Those are pretty fierce looking.

* Since he's a ReAction figure, the Mole Man only has five points of articulation. That's all I'd expect from a faux retro figure like this so it's all good. I do like the feel of Super7's ReAction figures far more than most other companies shooting for the vintage Kenner aesthetic. They just feel right. Hard to explain but you know it when you have him in your grubby little paws.

I really like this guy. The Mole People is by no means a top tier Universal Studios horror film but it's definitely a quirky cult classic and this guy is an interesting figure. He really does have a vintage charm and I love his bizarre headsculpt and claws. It's a shame he didn't come with any mushroom accessories, though. It'd be nice if Super7 would try to include some little item with each figure. He's a Great ReAction figure and a fun take on the Mole People. Partner him up with the Monitor/ Metaluna Mutant and you've got a crazy tag team!

This is the first figure of the Mole Man I've reviewed. For more Super7 ReAction reviews check out the following:

    1. I love when Universal Monsters lines get more offbeat, too. I'd love to see NECA go stranger an deeper in the line.
