31 Days of Toy Terror Takes the Universe: Bride of Frankenstein #1631 from POP! Movies: Universal Monsters by Funko

Happy Halloween! Today's the day to go out and enjoy lots of spooky fun, so don't just sit around online all day; make the most of this Halloween! Today I've got a rather brief review of the new Bride of Frankenstein POP! vinyl from Funko. This is a fairly new release and while it's not the first version of the Bride that Fynko has released, it certainly is the most colorful. On Funko's website they call this variant Bride of Frankenstein (Deco), which I assume is how they're referring to this cool colorscheme that reminds me of 1970s comic book art. Despite the Bride only being in The Bride of Frankenstein for under 4 minutes (and appearing in no other films) her unique appearance and the creepy mannerisms Elsa Lanchester gave her have still made her one of the most recognizable and iconic monsters in the world of horror. James Whale's  original cut of film would have been 87 minutes long but Carl Laemmle Jr. wanted it cut down, so the only version we have today is only 75 minutes. The film is excellent and top tier Universal Horror, but wouldn't you have liked to have seen that original director's cut? Let's celebrate the Bride of Frankenstein by checking out this cool, colorful POP! after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 4 inches

Articulation: Swivel head.

Accessories: None

Non-Scalper Price: $12-$13 dollars

The Positives:

* The Bride of Frankenstein is in a fairly neutral pose which probably helps her stand upright despite having her wild hairdo. Her dress gives her a wide enough base. Her head rotates, like most POP! vinyls, so you can pose her a bit to add some character to your display.

* The Bride is dressed in her classic outfit of a white, loose-fitting dress (reminiscent of a wedding gown) over the bandages she was wrapped up in during her creation. The colors are brighter here, though, as this series of Universal Monsters uses bright, bold highlights to give the characters the appearance of a comic books design from the 1970s. I've reviewed a couple of the Star Wars figures like this and I love the overall look.

* While the Bride is typically thought of as having Caucasian skin and auburn hair, this "deco" edition has greenish-blue skin, kind of like the Munsters. She's wearing some fantastic makeup and is clearly going all out here. She looks excellent with some really neat color design.

* The Bride's hair has some vaguely lightning bolt shaped designs in it and was styled after the hair styles of some ancient Egyptian queens. This time around her hair is jet black with lots of sculpted details to show it's texture and some purple and white highlights to give it quite a pop.

* The dress isn't just plain white, either. It also has some neon blue designs to give it the illusion of texture and depth, like the "fabric" is shifting and swaying around the Bride's body.

if you've read every day of 31 Days of Toy Terror Takes the Universe I greatly appreciate it! I hope you enjoyed this fun tribute to the Universal Studios Monsters and those fun and influential films from the early 20th century. This is a Great take on the Bride of Frankenstein. The colors are just eye-popping and add a nice bit of pizazz to the display. I've actually got quite a bit more stuff I've wanted to check out related to Frankenstein and the Bride, so I think I have something fun and spooky planned for November, too. Happy Halloween and never let the party die!

  1. Definitely a Munsters vibe. Cute though. And weird timing cause I’m watching Bride of Frankenstein right now! Happy Halloween - thanks for all the posts!

    1. You are very welcome! With NECA rolling on their classic horror lines and some great movies coming out soon (the Robert Eggers Nosferatu and the new Wolf Man), expect to see lots more classic horror around here next year.
