Wrapping Up 2021: Torn from Final Faction by Greenbrier International

Series 1 of Final Faction was pretty straight forward: The heroic human Alpha Team 1 versus the evil alien Kharn. Series 2 begins to mix things up a bit with the introduction of Torn, a mysterious covert agent who appears to help fight the Kharn and then disappears again. Seemingly human but armed with unearthly technology, there are definitely doubts cast about Torn's true loyalties. Torn has a pretty neat design and adds an interesting "wild card" character into the mix. Let's take a look at Torn after the break as I wrap up the 2021 releases from Final Faction...

The Facts:

Height: 4 inches

Articulation: Swivel hips, swivel shoulders, and swivel neck.

Accessories: Pistols, hood, and 2 arm blades.

Non-Scalper Price: $1 dollar

The Positives:

* Torn's design is definitely sleek and mysterious with metallic purple armor over a brown body suit covered with straps and such. There's a lot of detail here and the paint applications are quite neat and clean.

* Torn's gimmick is that his head has two faces. The regular human head and this odd, alien head on the back. Kind of like the old Power Lords line, really. Flip the head around and you've got a really unusual looking being. I'm assuming this is Torn's true face. Perhaps he's from an alien species who has been fighting the Kharn for ages and who is joining the humans now. Or perhaps he's the last of his race after his planet was wiped out by the Kharn? There's a lot of story potential here.

* To give him a more mysterious appearance Torn has a hood that obscures most of his face. He looks like he belongs in Assassins' Creed, doesn't he? It's a cool design for sure and there's some nice texture on the piece.

* These are simple figures with 5 points of articulation. Sure, more would be better, but you know what you're getting here and aren't paying much for it. They feel durable enough and  haven't had any issues with them.

* For close quarters combat, which he seems to favor, Torn can use these forearm blades. They're simple blades that can pop into the gauntlets on his wrist. They're kind of cool and seem like a neat weapon. Maybe not the most practical thing for fighting aliens but maybe they function more like vibroblades in Star Wars?

* The blades plug into Torn's gauntlets and can swing around, so he can have them at the ready or stored up by his shoulders. Pretty neat, really.

* Torn's pistol is cool but doesn't look like anything too special. It is supposed to be a pretty unusual weapon, though, so perhaps it's tech from his home world or something?

* The holster on his right hip stores his pistol pretty well and keeps it at the ready.

The Negatives:

* Like with Scope and most of the other humans, the heads on these guys look just a bit too simplistic for me to take seriously. Torn is better than some but it's definitely the part of the figure that looks the most like a dollar store toy.

* Torn's hood doesn't clip on very securely. It's incredibly loose and falls off pretty quickly. Be advised.

I get the feeling that if Final Faction had been a toyline released in the 1980s or 1990s, Torn would probably be the most popular character. He's mysterious, clothed in a dark, super cool outfit, uses arm blades, and he might be an alien in disguise. He's actually a really cool character and a pretty Great figure. Yeah, he's still low budget figure, but there's still a coolness to the design that just can't be denied. He's one of my favorites from the line so far. Nice accessories, something of an action feature with the two-faced head, and a mysterious background make Torn a real winner. If you're interested in seeing my go back and review more of the first series of Final Faction figures let me know. There not a toyline that gets too many reviews and it'd be kind of fun to check them out. let me know if there's interest!

This is the first figure of Torn I've reviewed. For more Final Faction reviews check out the following:

  1. The hood on mine— the tab at the base of the hood— tabs VERY securely into the slot at the nape.

    1. A few months back, maybe in March or April when I found the set of accessory packs for Scope, Torn, etc, it seems like they put out an updated version of Torn. I picked up a second one that looked like it had just arrived and the tab was a lot longer and fit nicely. Seems like a running change was made to the figure.
