Chirrut Imwe was one of the standout characters from Rogue One (which has a pretty solid cast of new characters) and is someone I'm really anxious to pick up in the Black Series. He's not quite out yet (some folks are getting him from China directly) but I'm pretty pleased to have this cool POP! version from Funko. I received him for Christmas and, I have to say, he's one of the best POP! vinyls in the Rogue One. Donnie Yen was incredible in Rogue One and I really hope we eventually see at least a book or a comic series about the adventures of Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus long before the events of the film. Let's take a closer look at this POP! and bother what might have been had the film ended differently, shall we?
The Facts:
Height: 3 7/8ths inches
Articulation: Bobbling head
Accessories: Display stand
Non-Scalper Price: $10 dollars
The Positives:
*Once again, Funko manages to make this figure look like a character without really doing anything at all out of the ordinary. The most significant thing here that separates Chirrut from other POP! vinyls is that his eyes are a milky blue, indicating his blindness. It looks great and helps him to stand out from the crowd.
* Chirrut's walking staff might not be as cool as his lightbow that he uses to take down a TIE Fighter, but it's definitely a pretty necessary accessory for the guy. Funko nailed the look and gave it a pretty nifty paint job for such a small accessory, too.
* Chirrut's costume is really well sculpted here, featuring both his cool robes and his Echo-box transmitter. I bet this will be a pretty popular cosplay this year.
* I'm not 100% sure what this device on Chirrut's left wrist does (it's called an impeller gauntlet and somehow functions in tandem with his lightbow) but it looks cool and appears rather film accurate.
* Like the other Star Wars POP! vinyls, Chirrut Imwe comes with a display
stand. I love these things and I wish all of the various POP! licenses
had similar stands. They make for nice display pieces and they help keep
the figures from tipping over.
The Negatives:
* Maybe it's just because I think that a more simple design should look cleaner but I find Chirrut Imwe's hairline to be a little sloppy. Not hideous, but worth pointing out.
Chirrut Imwe is another Great POP! I've never been the biggest fan of POP! vinyls before (I've always enjoyed them, but only owned a few) but Funko's work on the Star Wars license this year has been incredible. I love the detail they put in each figure and the character selection they choose. Chirrut is a great character with some fantastic details who easily makes for a Great. POP! Probably my favorite of the Rogue One POP vinyls, actually.
This is the first figure of Chirrut Imwe I own, but hopefully I'll have at least the Black Series version in the future to review. For now, check out these other Star Wars Pop! vinyls:
