The Incredible Shrinking 31 Days of Toy Terror: Mr. Good and Evil from Lego Minifigures by Lego

Back when I did my first ever 31 Days of Toy Terror (back 2013 at The Epic Review), there were definitely a few Lego sets and minifigures that were part of the festivities. I decided to throw another Lego minifigure in this year for old time's sake and today I'm checking out Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Um, I mean Mr. Good and Evil. That's the official name for this guy from Lego, anyway. He was released as part of Series 9 of the blind bagged minifigures back in 2013 and was definitely inspired by  Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Unlike the complete transformation between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as two separate personalities, however, Mr. Good and Evil has both sides of his personality present at once, more like Two-Face. Both sides are constantly trying to sabotage each other as well. What a conundrum! Ready for a look at Mr. Good and Evil? Then join me after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 1 5/8th inches tall

Articulation: Swivel hips, swivel shoulders, swivel wrists, and a swivel neck.

Accessories: Hat, potion, and display stand.

Year of Release: 2013

Original Retail Price: $3 -$4 dollars

The Positives:

* Mr. Good and Evil is a really cool figure! I originally purchased him to go with my Lego Monster Fighters sets and a Lego haunted town I made, though I did sell off the majority of my Lego sets quite a few years back. I kept most of the Monster Fighters, though, and some of the best and spookiest minifigures. This guy is great with a Victorian look that I absolutely approve of. Kind of dapper, kind of a wreck.

* His face is split in half, kind of like Harvey Dent/ Two-Face or like Dr. Jekyll on the cover of the NES game Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde from Bandai. Yes, it's a truly awful game, but the cover art was definitely unique, showing Jekyll and Hyde's personalities at once. That's what we have here: Mr. Good looks like your standard Lego guy but concerned (and with crazy muttonchops) while his Evil half is green with a crazy grin, sharp teeth, and lots of little marks and such on his face. Hey, this could be a Gotham by Gaslight take on Two-Face!

* His classic top hat also reflects his split personality as half of it is a standard black top hat while the other half has some rips and scuffs.

* The split personality effect is really well done here as even the hands are separate colors with one being standard Lego yellow and one a ghastly green. There are even painted tears in Mr. Good and Evil's pants on the Evil side where you can see his green skin poking through, too. That's a quality print job on the torso and pants.

* What's the articulation like? Well, he's a Lego minifigure, so you take a guess. He's absolutely a standard Lego mini, so there shouldn't be any surprises here. Minimal articulation with the ability to mix and match parts with other Lego minifigures. What more could a Lego collector want?

* Mr. Good and Evil comes with a potion in an Erlenmeyer flask which is a very cool accessory for the character. The bottle is clear and so is the purple liquid inside. What is it? Is this the "purple drank" that everyone used to sing and rap about? It is purple, though, and Mr. Good and Evil presumably drank it, so maybe?

* I think all of the Lego minifigures come with these neat little stands which make displaying rows of these little guys easier. I like them.

I really like Mr. Good and Evil and he makes a nice representation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in Lego if you're wanting some classic horror representation in your collection. He's an excellent minifigure with the classic Lego quality you expect, a cool accessory, and some excellent printing that shows off his split personalities. I really liked collecting these for a bit but eventually they seemed to become more difficult to find and Lego moved from bags to boxes, making it impossible to tell which figure you were purchasing. I like the ones I have, though, and this one's a cool mini.

This is the first toy of Mr. Good and Evil that I've reviewed. If you're looking for more of Dr. Jekyll and My. Hyde, however, I've also reviewed the the Mr. Hyde Nano Metalfig from Jada Toys' The Nightmare Before Christmas 20 Pack Figure Collectors Set and the Diamond Select Universal Monsters Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
