The Incredible Shrinking 31 Days of Toy Terror: The Bride of Frankenstein from Tiny Nightmares by Just Play

A few months ago I was at Target and found these really cool little blind-boxed minis, Tiny Nightmares from Just Play, that feature a couple Universal Monsters characters (the Bride of Frankenstein and the Creature from the Black Lagoon) as well as Michael Myers, Pennywise, Chuck and Tiffany, M3GAN, and the Nun. They seemed a bit pricy and I was really only interested in the Universal Monsters, Michael Myers, and maybe M3GAN, so I passed. Just a few weeks ago I was at Five Below and stumbled upon these little guys again, though now for $5 bucks. They were also packaged in foil bags instead of boxes and I thought I might have a better chance of pulling the figures I wanted most. The bagged set has fewer figures (Michael Myers, Tiffany, and Pennywise are absent) but it made it more likely I was going to get the one I want. After a good bit of feeling the packages and probably looking awfully suspicious I decided to check online and see if there was a code on the bags. Sure enough there was! To find the Bride of Frankenstein in the bagged set you'll look for a code "D" on the bag (it's the last letter in a series of numbers); for the boxed set you'll look for "E" for the Bride of Frankenstein. So far as I am aware, the blind bagged and blind boxed figures are the same figures, just with an adjustment to the assortment and codes. I'm glad to be able to pull the ones I wanted without getting duplicates or grabbing a mini I didn't care that much about (*cough* the Nun *cough*). Ready to once again spend some time with the Bride of Frankenstein? Then join me after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 3 1/8ths inches

Articulation: None

Accessories: None

Non-Scalper Price: $5 dollars

The Positives:

* Not everyone loves stylized minifigures but I tend to like most takes on the Universal Monsters crew. How cute is the Bride here? She's wearing her classic dress and while her colors are not accurate to the real colors on set, if you asked me to draw or color a picture of the Bride from memory this is what you'd get. She's a fairly heavy and solid little figure, kind of like a Funko Mystery Mini but with a bit more substance.

* The portrait is great. She's stylized but there is a good likeness to the character here with great eye makeup. Seriously, she looks fantastic!

* These figures are know for their Terrif-Eyes, little reflective eyes that show off a victim in their sights (or at least another character). They're shiny and they look really neat, sitting under the clear eye lenses. Who is the Bride encountering? Why, it's the Frankenstein Monster, of course!

* Her hair is large and the stylized look does capture it quite well. I love the white streaks, too. They're a bit squiggly rather than angled but they look good with the design. She's also got some visible stitches right next to her ears, as she should.

The Negatives:

* My only complaint is that the white streaks painted on the sides are a bit messy with the black of the hair clearly showing through. For a more simple smaller figure like this, I was really hoping the paint would be as neat and clean here as it is everywhere else.

I don't think I'd pick these up blind boxed for the higher $9 to $11 dollar price point some retailers have but, if you're using one of the guides to identify the figures and if you're grabbing these up from Five Below for $5 bucks, this is a really nice pickup. This is a Good and a 1/2 miniature version of the Bride of Frankenstein. She looks nice on the shelf (though a bit lonely, perhaps) and those Terrif-Eyes are far cooler of a feature than I thought. I just like them quite a bit. Gimmick? Sure, but a neat one! Hopefully Just Play will put out another series or two (or three). I'd love to get the rest of the Universal Monsters main crew. How cool would the Wolf Man or the Metaluna Mutant be with those Terrif-Eyes?
