The Incredible Shrinking 31 Days of Toy Terror: B3A5TBOT and Atomic Terrana-Claw from MrBeast Lab Hybrids by Moose Toys

It's always fun to check out something different during 31 Days of Toy Terror so today I'm looking at these fairly new MrBeast Lab Hybrids action figures by Moose Toys. While YouTube personality MrBeast has the most popular channel out there, I'm guessing a lot of collectors aren't terribly familiar with his various toylines produced by Moose Toys. I've seen the various lines like the MrBeast Lab Swarms, MrBeast Lab Mutators, and the various MrBeast Goo Jit Zu releases in stores but I was never really tempted to pick any up until stumbling on the MrBeast Lab Hyrbids back in early August. Remember the vintage Matchbox Con-Nec-Tors  or the various Mashers lines that Hasbro puts out every few years? These remind me of those, though the figures on their own are just quite good, too. Nothing crazy, but they're fun smaller figures (between 4 and 4 1/2 inches) solid in large plastic Erlenmeyer (conical) flasks. The standard figures are in smaller flasks and are blind boxed but the two-packs and the 5 figure Mega pack have set figures (the Mega-Pack does have a chance for a rarer figure, though). I only saw this two-pack the day I grabbed it and it features the B3A5TBOT and Atomic Terrana-Claw. A killer robot and a nuclear dinosaur skeleton? That's 31 Days of Toy Terror material for sure! Let's check out this 2 pack of Lab Hybrids after the break...

The Packaging:

* Each releases in this series comes in a transparent blue Erlenmeyer flask with some details molded into the plastic as well as the MrBeast logo. The single packs come with a smaller flask, the 2-packs come with this medium flask, and the Mega 5-pack comes with a huge flask. Inside the flask the pieces are in little bags attached to the lid which you pull out in a strand and tear open to reveal who you got (though the 2-packs are fixed releases). I can imagine after getting a few flasks storing these will grow old, but I like the look of them. They're neat shelf decorations or a good place to store the figures and parts in. The packaging warns you not to drink out of the flask, but that's the first thing I had in mind. How cool would it be to fill this thing with some Ghoul-Aid and tote it around during the Halloween season? Well, Moose Toys says don't do that!

The Positives:

* Let's start off with B3A5TBOT, presumably the hero of the pack. There's a team of animals that have a similar blue and pink color scheme and lightning bolt effects on their head like the MrBeast Shockclaw Panther, so if you find them you can build a cool squad. Of course, maybe B3A5TBOT is a crazy killer robot! The included "Collector's Gude" says he's an Ultra Rare figure (which seems odd since you can pick him off the shelf rather than out of a blind box) with the power of Tech. The color scheme is quite nice and the sculpt is really quite sharp.

* Rather than a head, B3A5TBOT's head looks like a monitor with the aforementioned pink lightning bolts in place of rabbit ears antennae. He's also not sporting a traditional face; just the images of a face on a screen. It's a cool look and just a bit creepy!

* This guy has really cool arms. Each shoulder splits into two arms, one with a gripping claw and one with a blade. This makes him seem pretty well armed and far more fearsome than most other figures. I like to make him spin with the blade arms extended, like a blender of death.

* B3A5TBOT doesn't have standard legs. Oh no, no, no; that just wouldn't do. Instead, he has treads. A set of treads in place of each foot. Pretty cool, right? Imagine him kicking someone right in the face and then really revving the tread! That's a horrifically wicked image. Like something out of Mortal Kombat! This is 31 Days of Toy Terror after all, though; expect the unexpected!

* The second figure is Atomic Terrana-Claw, a skeletal dinosaur-like warrior with a radioactive glow. This guy is my favorite of the two, but they're both really good figures. I just dig glowing skeletons. Atomic Terrana-Claw is listed as a "Rare" figure rather than an "Ultra Rare" like B3A5TBOT, but that doesn't make sense, does it? They come in the same two-pack. Anyways, this guy is affiliated with the Bone subset and he's incredibly well sculpted. His bones are wild looking and he reminds me of something that would have been in the Mattel Mad Scientist Monster Lab. The color of green is just an absolute win here. I didn't note it above, but each figure has a thumbprint design on their chest. It doesn't do anything itself but it serves as somewhat of a grip for the figure's body swap feature, which I'll get to more in a minute.

* The dinosaur skull is a really nice sculpt. It's quite fierce with lots of ridges on the top and a variety of openings and cavities all over. There are some eyes just visible, like they're floating inside the sockets.

* None of the figures in this line really come with weapons, but Atomic Terrana-Claw's claws are so long and wicked looking that they surely count as weapons. I also really like the...veins? Cords? The what-evers that run up and down his arms. He has parts of his body that look slightly mechanical, so maybe he's a cyborg as well? A glow-in-the-dark cyborg skeletal dinosaur. That just about checks all of the boxes, doesn't it?

* Not only does Atomic Terrana-Claw have a wonderfully toxic green color but he also has a great dark wash that really grimes him up a bit. Seriously, he looks pretty impressive, especially on his limbs. The wash really makes this guy look better than most toys targeted at actual kids, which these definitely are.

* There's a regular Terrana-Claw figure that's a "Rare" in the single packed, blind boxed figures, but he doesn't glow in the dark like this guy. He actually has a pretty decent glow, especially on his torso and crotch.

* Keep in mind that these aren't collector targeted figures like Marvel Legends or import quality figures, so don't judge them by that metric, but articulation-wise? These guys are really good! They've got swivel/hinge joints at the elbows, shoulders, hips, and knees (B3A5TBOT has two elbow joints on each arm) with a basic swivel waist and head. They're durable figures and the body part switching gimmick doesn't really interfere with these guys being fun to play with and pose. They certainly have more articulation than most action figures I grew up with! They're really fun to just mess around with.

* There are two 2-packs in this series (the packaging and Collector's Guide calls this the "Hyper Fusion" series) and each comes with half the parts for a build-a-figure: The winged Gold Pantheon. This set includes Gold Pantheon's lower body (the legs are attached to the waist) and both arms. This seems like it'll be a cool figure, though you don't necessarily need the other half to make use of the parts. You can mix and match them with what you already have, too.

* Each figure separates into five pieces: A head, 2 arms, a waist with legs attached, and a torso. There are figures in the line with multiple arms or wings, but these guys don't have any of those. It's easy to swap the pieces and there doesn't seem to be any real wear or stress put on the plastic, so you can swap away and not feel at risk of breaking anything. It's simple, but it's quite fun and a pretty neat gimmick.

* Here's a shot of a figure from the back. There are attachment points for wings and such on the back of the head and on the back of the waist (wings, tails, etc.), but what is really kind of neat about these is that you press a button to detach the head and waist. See the little oval shaped button in the center of the back? Press it and it releases the waist and head, so no pulling necessary. It's an interesting feature and the shape of the button and the two holes nearby make me think that Moose Toys plans to release some sort of playset or accessory that allows you to swap the heads and waists as a play feature. I'm interested to see what they cook up.

So... what do I think about this MrBeast Lab Hybrids two-pack? I think it's pretty darn good. Very, very darn good. Epic, really. Seriously, I can't believe how much coolness is packed into this set for around $20 bucks. Two really neat figures with a great swapping feature, some extra limbs (or half a build-a-figure), and a giant plastic Erlenmyer flash that's 9 7/8ths inches tall: That's a lot of fun. If you're in a position to grab a toy for a kid, there's really a lot here. Honestly, I've been having a blast just messing around with these guys. I'll throw them all in the giant flask from the Mega Pack and just build creatures while watching TV at night. They're great hand candy!

These are the first figures of B3A5TBOT and Terrana-Claw that I've reviewed.
