Today is our second installment of March Magic, a monthlong celebration of all things Orko!
Funko has been a huge maker of Masters of the Universe merchandise since 2013 and Orko has made it into most of their various lines so far. Today we're going to check out a sweet treat: An Orko Pez! dispenser! From Funko's POP! + Pez Dispensers line, Orko was released in 2019 as part of the first year of MOTU POP! + Pez! products. Considering the juggernaut that MOTU was in the 1980s it's really surprising that we never saw MOTU Pez dispensers back then, although having a licensed Pez diespenser for everything under the sun definitely didn't seem to start until the mid-late 90s or early 2000s. Did you know my wife used to collect Pez dispensers? It's true. At some point she just lost interest, though, so we've got a few large boxes of Pez dispensers I keep telling her I'll sell off for her. She lost interest and now I'm picking Pez dispensers up! Only the MOTU ones, though. Sheesh, what would have happened if she were still collecting them? Would we have had to have two of each? Would Orko spend time in my collecton and then time in hers? I'm kind of glad she's not collecting them now, I guess. Anyways, Orko is a great fit for this series so let's check him out after the break...
Height: 4 3/4ths inches
Includes: 1 roll of candy
Original Retail Price: $6-7 dollars
Year of Release: 2019
* Orko is pretty easily recognizable. He's done in the style of a POP! vinyl so he definitely has a slightly different look than your usual Pez dispenser. The paint work is clean and I really like how his blue ears pop out of his hat. The yellow eyes are also pretty clean looking, which can often be tough to achieve.
* Orko's dispenser body is exactly the same as any other Pez dispenser I've ever seen. It's red, matching Orko's robe, and it holds a roll of candy. I mean, c'mon: It's a Pez dispenser. You've surely owned one of these before, right? A black "O" across the front would have been cool but I guess that would probably break the Pez aesthetic or something.
* All of the POP! Pez Dispensers includes a pack of Pez (assorted). Why does it only come with one when you usually get three in a regular pack? I guess because these are intended more as collectibles rather than really intending to be eaten. The nice thing is you can take these out of the box and put them back in, making them collector friendly. They do display nicely in the box, so that's how I'm keeping them.
If you're an Orko fan I've also reviewed the MOTU Origins Orko, Super7's vintage
styled Orko and Shadow
Orko, the green
Orko M.U.S.C.L.E. minifigure from the #1 Masters of the Universe set
by Super7, The Loyal Subjects Orko,
the Orko pin from the GameStop Funko Masters
of the Universe box, the Monogram International Orko figural
bag clip, the standard Orko ReAction
figure, and the boxed ReAction Orko
(Cartoon Colors).

ReplyDeleteThey really do a nice job on these. I just wish they could get the price point a bit lower as I think they'd be a great mass market retail item versus something you tend to only find in specialty stores.
DeleteGood ol' 23d pills. The drug of choice.
ReplyDeleteI once ordered an entire case of Pez candies through a website just to snack on them during game nights. I think orange and grape are my favorites.
