Minifigure Review: The Penguin from DC Comics- Batman Tiny Mights by CultureFly

How about we make this a minifigure Monday? Shake on it? OK, then. Let's take a brief look at the Penguin from CultureFly's DC Comics- Batman Tiny Mights lie. I ordered mine direct from CultureFly and still, even after about 2 months, I still haven't seen any of these little guys on store shelves at Walmart (they're supposed to be up front with the Pokemon cards and such). This is a really cool minifigure of the Penguin captured in a style that's very reminiscent of the classic M.U.S.C.L.E. figures. This is a great rendering of Oswald Cobblepot as he's not just a normal looking gangster here, but he's not a crazy, deformed monster, either. Honestly, this is a very ideal look for the Penguin. Let's check him out closer after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 1 and 3/4ths inches

Non-Scalper Price: $5-$6 dollars for 3 figures and a plastic Batmobile case

The Positives:

* I love this look for the Pegnuin. These are pretty stylized figures so while he's not really any smaller than the rest of the figures in the set, he looks shorter due to his hat being taller. Without it he'd be closer to 1 3/8ths inches. He has talon-like hands, a short umbrella with a vaguely bird-shaped handle, and a very snazzy looking outfit with layers of clothes.

* From the back you can see more of his furry collar and his short, squat proportions.

* These sets come in a little plastic Batmobile with a plastic wrap around the middle. The Batmobile splits in half, so you can use it for storing little trinkets or accessories. It's a neat idea and the fact that it's translucent means you can look through it (if you find these in stores) to identify the figures you need.

These are some of the neatest minifigures I've purchased in quite some time and I love how well they translate Batman and his villains and allies into a very M.U.S.C.L.E.-like line. The Penguin is a Great minifigure with sharp, crisp details and a wonderful design. In the sets I received I got him in purple, yellow, and the chase color of sparkly green. I think I like the purple one the best. I'd love to pick up some more of these but the distribution is rather weird and I can't find them at retail anywhere. hat's the only downside to this incredibly cool line.

If you're looking for more reviews of the Penguin I've also looked at the Lego Arkham Asylum Breakout which includes a Penguin minifigure, Mattel's Batman: Classic TV Series Penguin, and the Jada Toys DC Nano Metalfigs The Penguin (DC49).
