I've got another set of Dr. Malgam's Body Bags by ToadFrog to check out today. It's tough to review these guys like a regular figure since you're getting seven mixed up parts with each figure rather than a complete figure that you mix and match with others but it is fun to show off all of the parts. At some point I'll probably add pictures of the completed figures so you can see who can be fully built with series 1. This feature is dominated by the amazing Sea Creature head but there are plenty of other cool parts in this set. Let's check out Assortment #4 after the break...
The Facts:
Height: 5 3/8ths inches (6 1/8ths with the crest)
Articulation: Swivel shoulders and a swivel neck.
Accessories: Figure is made up of removable pieces (head, torso, 2 arms, 2 legs) and comes with 1 extra leg and a fabric Body Bag.
Non-Scalper Price: $25 dollars (or sold in various bundles during the Kickstarter with other sets at a discount).
* This set comes with a mixture of parts from various different characters, not all of which can be built in series 1. Hopefully a series 2 is produced at some point. There's excellent detail and paintwork here, though, and a wide variety of colors and designs. The Cyber-Gorilla arm is furry with a metal claw coming out of arm while the claw arm is covered in crustacean inspired detail. These are really interesting to look at as the parts are so varied.
The Negatives:
* ToadFrog was certainly upfront about how the legs would be handled here but it does seem odd to me that they chose to go with legs that attach to the bottom of the torso rather than attaching to the sides of the waist. It's a bit limiting in movement and I'm not sure what the gain there was to offset the loss of the joints being on the side. You could have built four armed or four legged creatures and what not if all of the limbs attached the same way.
As you can probably tell by my reviews of the other assortments (including my video review as part of my first livestream) I really like this series of figures. Again, I do wish we received full figures instead of mixed up sets but these are incredibly fun and I imagine a second series has to come at some point. This is another Great set with the best portrait we've seen in the line yet. I'm really curious to hear more about ToadFrog's plans for the future of this line. Now that these have been funded and delivered to backers there surely have to be plans to sell these to consumers, right? It's odd that we're not seeing any for sale now that backers have them in hand and various reviewers and such are talking about them. Strike while the iron is hot!
The Sea Creature, clearly inspired by but different from the Creature from the Black Lagoon, is the star here.
