I'm about month late on this review, huh? I actually received this Michael Myers vinyl figure as a birthday present a little over two months ago but, since I stuck to the theme of 2024's Universal Monsters theme and this figure is from Halloween 2 which was released by...Universal Pictures? So was Halloween 3, Halloween 2018, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends. Wait.... is Michael Myers a Universal Monster? Ha ha. I don't really count him in there as he didn't appear during the Universal Classic horror period of 1913 through 1960, but I'm sure someone could make an argument. He has appeared multiple times at Universal's Halloween Horror Nights. It's because of the different studios and licensing why we get Halloween figures and merchandise from sometimes random and very specific movies. Anyways, this is one of two Halloween 2 vinyl Michael Myers figures that have been released through Culture Fly at Five Below, a pretty cool store for finding minifigures and little vinyl figures. They also have lots of neat snacks. I decided to take a look at the Michael Myers on Fire figure. If I'd had him earlier he would have made a good candidate for Hot Toy Summer. Ready to check this guy out? Then join me after the break...
The Facts:
Height: 4 1/2 inches
Articulation: None
Accessories: Display stand
* This is a solid, sturdy vinyl figure that recreates Michael's look at the end of Halloween II when Dr. Loomis opens the gas tanks in the hospital and blows up both himself and Michael. Well, attempts to; Michael ends up walking out of the inferno while engulfed in flame while Dr. Loomis shows up again in Halloween IV. This is a pretty standard Michal Myers underneath the flames (which are not removable): Blue mechanic's coveralls, black footwear. The fire effect does make for a rather unique looking figure for the shelf. This take on Michael is stylized a bit, but not as much as most anything that Funko has released in a similar scale or style.
* I actually think the mask looks more like one of the masks from a later movie, but that's probably due to the slightly stylized nature of it. I think I'm overly critical of Michael Myers' mask when it appears on most figures as I have such a specific idea of what it should look like. This one has very distinct features but, again, it's stylized. It's not bad. He's got the blood tears dripping down his face from where Laurie shoots him in the eyes. That's pretty darn impressive, if you think about it. Laurie was injured, terrified, probably cold, and she's not really trained for combat. She's a deadeye.
* Yes, Michael Myers is most recognizable for using a large knife, but in the scene this figure uses (or kind of amalgamizes) he uses a scalper before dropping it after the explosion when he's on fire. Still, who's going to knock Michael carrying a large carving knife? It's looks sharp.
* The flames are permanently attached to the figure but they are separate translucent pieces that have a blend of orange and yellow. He's not fully engulfed in flames here, sure, but it's a fun effect for a $5 dollar vinyl figure.
* From the back you can see some pretty respectable details on his coveralls. He's got an elastic waistband and the folded down collar.

* There's a simple disc stand included with the Halloween II logo. Nothing fancy but still, it adds a classy touch.
The Negatives:
* Something a bit odd is that the feet and foot pegs don't perfectly align with the base. That's weird, isn't it? I managed to fix it by hearing the legs just a bit to allow them to pull apart more. Still, must have been an issue where the figure was warped in the packaging. He stood fine without the stand, though.
For $5 dollars at Five Below I'm all about this little guy. He's a neat little pickup and a cool little extra for Halloween fans. The flames definitely make him stand out from most other Michael Myers collectibles and figures in your collection. Sure, he's not insanely accurate like a NECA figure nor does he come with a crazy amount of extras or bells and whistles, but I like him. He's a Great little collectible Michael Myers to add a touch of the spooky season whenever you need it.

Strange idea for a figure, but hey why not, right? It's definitely not run-of-the-mill!
ReplyDeleteThere is a standard Michael Myers from Halloween 2 as well. He has different arms, no blood tears, no fire, and a hammer instead of a knife. I do like when we get a more unique look, though.
DeleteHe reminds me of the Toy Biz flaming Ringwraith from their Lord of the Rings line.
