Trick or Treat Through 31 Days of Toy Terror: Dr. Sarah Bowman from Day of the Dead by Trick or Treat Studios

For today's installment of Trick or Treat Through 31 Days of Toy Terror I'm finishing up Trick or Treat Studios' Day of the Dead line by taking a look at Dr. Sarah Bowman, the film's primary protagonist and someone who can fight the other zombies in the line. She's a solid choice for the line due to her role in the film, played by actress Lori Cardille, though I do have to admit that she's the least interesting of the figures since she's not a zombie and she doesn't rip apart like Capt. Henry Rhodes. Still, she's a vital part of the film and she comes with some nifty weaponry. Ready to check out Dr. Sarah Bowman? Then join me after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 5 1/8ths inches.

Articulation: Swivel hips, swivel shoulders, and a swivel neck.

Accessories: Uzi, revolver, and snare

Non-Scalper Price: $30 dollars

The Positives:

* Dr. Sarah Bowman is wearing a pretty plain outfit. Nothing glamorous or that stands out; just a tan flight jacket and some khaki trousers. She's a solid looking figure with a good sculpt, though this isn't the most eye-catching outfit. I kind of wish Trick or Treat studios had gone with her lab coat look, not because she wears it more but because it would have been a bit more interesting. Still, it's tough to knock the technical detail of her sculpt. She does look like a vintage toy from the very late 1980s or 1990s and I think she'd fit in fairly well with some of the taller lines, like the Terminator 2 toyline. I could see using her as a Sarah Connor in that line, couldn't you?

* Like so many late 1980s and early 1990s character likenesses, this one feels like the character without being a dead ringer for the actress. Does it look like Linda Cardille? Yeah, if you're told that's who it is. It's a decent sculpt, though, which is what this line is going for, and it looks aesthetically appealing and like the character without being the spitting image of the actress.

*  From the back you can see that Dr. Bowman has a ponytail, something so many 1980s figures left off of female action figures. There were multiple 1980s and 1990s female action figures that had short hair (Scarlett, nearly every version of Princess Leia, and the auto-morphing Trini and Kimberly from Power Rangers immediately come to mind) due to molding difficulties. Well, Sarah Bowman has a ponytail, so clearly you can see that progress has been made.

* Like most of the other figures in this line and this range of figures by Trick or Treat Studios, Dr. Sarah Bowman only has five points of articulation. Everything moves well and the figure feels quite sturdy. She's very solid. Since Sarah doesn't have any action feature, there's nothing unusual about her standard five points of articulation. You can move her around, place a weapon in her hand, and have her stand solidly against the other monsters in the line.

* Sarah's weapon of choice is an IMI 9mm Uzi. She uses this multiple times in the film and this is a very accurate recreation of the submachine gun. It's a solid piece and it looks really good. The detail is crisp and sharp. It's probably one of the best Uzis I've ever seen in the scale. It would probably work OK with most 1/12th scale figures, too.

* As a sidearm, she also comes with a revolver that looks to be a Smith & Wesson 629, like the pistols included with Captain Rhodes. It's a nice looking pistol, though I believe she uses a Smith & Wesson 59 automatic as her sidearm in the film.

* A holster is permanently looped around her waist and the revolver fits snugly and securely inside. It looks pretty good on her, really.

* The last accessory is one of the capture poles that are used to capture the zombies being held for experimentation. It's a long plastic tube with a string loop on the end.

* Pull on the bottom of the capture pole and the loop tightens, allowing you to keep one of the undead in a tight grip.

The Negatives:

* Be careful pulling this one down too far. If it comes out it is a real pain to put back in.

Dr. Sarah Bowman is easily the most plain figure in the Day of the Dead toyline. Actually, she's probably the most plain figure from this range of figures that Trick or Treat Studios has released (which includes Day of the Dead, Terrifier, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and House of 1,000 Corpses to date) to date. Still, she's a sold figure with two solid pistols and she's the protagonist of the film. I should say I'm pleasantly surprised that she received a spot in the line. She's a Great figure and quite unique as it's rare to get the heroes and heroines from most horror films. And someone has to be out there fighting the zombies and searching for a cure, right?

This is the first figure of Dr. Sarah Bowman I've reviewed on the site. For more figures from Trick or Treat Studios' Day of the Dead line check out the following:
