The ABCs of 31 Days of Toy Terror: H is for Harigorasu from M.U.S.C.L.E. by Mattel

The air is cool! The leaves are falling. The smells of pumpkin spice, burnt wood, and Kit-Kats are in the air. Just imagine visiting a house on Halloween night and having someone say "I'm all out of candy, but I do have these vintage M.U.S.C.L.E. men for you."
One of the most fun things about is revisiting old favorite toylines and one of the lines I always enjoy revisiting is M.U.S.C.L.E., so for the letter H I'm going with Harigorasu. Harigorasu is #136 in the M.U.S.C.L.E. line and is a crazy looking guy that I've had since childhood. Three eyes, beastly features, and a body covered in warts? Definitely 31 Days of Toy Terror material here! Harigorasu is a chojin and apparently is called Harigoras in the manga. He also looks really different there, more like some sort of a hedgehog creature. Let's take a look at this spooky little rubber guy after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 1 7/8ths inches

M.U.S.C.L.E. #: 136

Originally Sold in: 4 and 10 packs.

Year of Release: 1986.

* Harigorasu is a bulky looking dude, kind of like Beastman or an ogre of some sort. He's jacked, though, with some crazy abs. He doesn't skip his crunches, that's for sure.

* Harigorasu has a chinstrap beard, some sort of growths or protrusions on his head, and a third eye. He definitely looks like he could fit in as a Masters of the Universe character. Imagine this fellow knocking heads for Skeletor? I'm really trying to figure out his skin condition. Warts? Armored skin? Short, nubby spikes?

* Here's a shot of his back with more of his crazy growths! He's also sporting a Roman styled waistcoat, though I'm not sure if they have Rome in the Kinnikuman universe or on the Planet Metro, where this guy is from.

Are there any vintage M.U.S.C.L.E.S. that aren't just super fun and crazy? I've had Harigorasu for most of my life and the guy still thrills me. He's a Great and a 1/2 minifigure and a stellar opponent for any of your intergalactic wrestling adventures. Imagine this big brute trying to steal your trick 'r treat bag? You'd soil yourself, no doubt!

Ahh, M.U.S.C.L.E. men. I wish you'd make a true comeback. You've always been the best! I'd just like to watch the show/ movies or read the manga. Anyone know where to find it?

This is the first figure of Harigorasu I've reviewed. For more M.U.S.C.L.E. guys check out the following:

  1. I really wish Mattel would bring back M.U.S.C.L.E. Nice to read about the vintage figures again. (the super 7 ones featuring licensed properties just never felt the same!)

    1. Yeah, I liked about half of theirs (some of them were just poorly made) but I'd definitely like to see something closer to the characters and style of the vintage line. Wrestlers, monsters, etc.
