Figure Review: Nami (Egghead Style) from Glitter & Glamours: One Piece by Bandai Namco/ Banpresto

Ready for another cool RossCon find? Just a couple weeks ago I was in a Ross and found the new Nami (Egghead Style) figure from Bandai Namco/ Banpresto's Glitter & Glamours: One Piece line. Bandai seems to have characters from multiple anime and manga properties in the Glitters & Glamours line, all women, and these figures are designed to be glamorous and eye-catching. They also seem to be a bit taller than most of the Banpresto releases; Nami herself comes in around 9 inches tall. I'm a fan of Nami and the SSG branded outfits for the Straw Hats in the Egghead arc, so finding this figure at Ross at a steep discount made her an instant buy. These usually run around $30 dollars each but I found mine for $20. Not a bad discount for a new figure. If you've ever collected the Kotobukiya Bishoujo figures, these remind me a lot of that line in terms of the scale and style. Ready to check out this new Nami? Then join me after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 9 inches

Articulation: None

Accessories: None

Non-Scalper Price: $30 dollars

Comparison:

* Just for fun and comparison here's a look at three versions of Nami in this same outfit: The Battle Record Collection Nami is on the left, the Glitter & Glamours Nami is in the middle, and the Shukko Nami on the right. While the aesthetics are all quite similar, the Glitter & Glamours figure is definitely taller and would look like a giantess next to most other Banda One Piece figures.

The Positives:

* I've got to say that a 9-inch figure like this for $30 dollars (the retail price) is really, really good. I used to love Kotobukiya's DC Comics and horror figures but their prices have just gone insane. Yes, I know they have really good quality and often elaborate bases, but I'm not sure they're over $120 dollars plus better than what Banpresto is putting out. The pose is great and while it doesn't have Nami's Clima-Tact staff, it does have a nice amount of character while still being fairly neutral. She's tall but she's not taking up a ton of shelf space. Nami has her right foot crossed behind her left leg, her right hand on her hip, and she seems to be listening to something or someone on her headset. The colors are bright and vibrant and everything looks really impressive. She's a nice addition to a display of other similar sized figures or other One Piece figures.

* Nami looks fantastic here but, let's be honest, does Nami ever not look fantastic? The SSG one piece suit she wears is quite cool and really nicely detailed. Besides the seams in the clothing and around the edge of the high collar, there are also plenty of sculpted folds and such on the outfit. The outfit isn't just solid white, either; the paint applications add some nice shadow and texture to the look of the outfit as well. Everything here is just really neat and clean, capturing the bold and colorful look of Toei's animation and Eiichiro Oda's original designs.

* Nami's portrait is really good and captures her likeness quite well. The eyes are really neat and clean and look quite captivating as she's darting her vision to the left.  I like her messy hair and how it just kind of tumbles around her headphones and the high collar of her outfit. I think my pictures make the hair look a little too yellow but it's more orange and red in person, though it is lighter than most other Nami figures from what I can tell.

* Here's a look at the cool tattoo on Nami's left shoulder, her gold bangle, and her Log Pose. everything is pretty neat and clean, though one of the orbs on the Log Pose might have a little bit of slop. Still, it's great to see so many cool details. Oh, and you can see the hood on the back of her outfit, too. That's a cool detail that I forget about on this outfit.

* Here's a look at the back of the figure so you can see Nami's hair and more of her headset.

* I like this little pouch on Nami's right hip. It might only be 1/100th of the required number of pouches for an early 1990s comic book character, but it's apparently plenty for Nami to carry her gear around in.

* I really like giant boots on the SSG uniforms and Nami's pink boots go great with her outfit. They certainly make a fashion statement, don't they?

* Her right leg is bent at the knee with the bottom of her foot at an angle, showing off the bottom of the boot. That's pretty cool that Banpresto included the boosters and such on the bottom.

Besides just really liking this figure, I'm also impressed by the size of the figure for the price. And I'm not talking about getting it on discount at Ross; $30 dollars for a high quality non-articulated figure that stands 9 inches tall isn't bad at all. I mean, it's essentially a low end statue, and at $30 dollars that's almost unheard of. Since the Glitter & Glamours line doesn't seem to have any men in it you won't be able to get the rest of the Straw Hats in this scale and style (they do have Robin, though), but if you have other similar figures? This is an Epic Nami to go with them. I'm impressed and this one is definitely worth the berries!

Looking for more of Nami? I've also reviewed the Banpresto Battle Record Collection Nami (Egghead).
