Action Figure Review: Two-Face (The Dark Knight Trilogy) from DC Multiverse by McFarlane Toys

I'm not planning to review all of the figures from McFarlane's The Dark Knight Trilogy series of figures as I've reviewed so many Batman and Joker figures lately that I don't want to make things stale. I haven't reviewed any Two-Face figures recently, though, so I definitely want to check out this figure based on Aaron Eckhart's portrayal of Harvey Dent in 2008's The Dark Knight. Having watched the film again recently with my daughter (it was her first time seeing it), I was again impressed by how good it is and how wonderful of  job the entire cast does. Harvey Dent's character arc is just so tragic and heartbreaking in the film! Once he becomes Two-Face, he's an excellent villain who just adds another layer to the complexity of the film. This series contains the pieces for a build-a-figure of Bane, so there's a lot here for fans of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. This is also the first Two-Face figure in McFarlane's DC Multiverse line, so that's kind of appeling, too. Let's flip on over to the review, after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 7 1/4ths inches

Articulation: Hinged toes, double swivel hinged ankles, double hinged knees, swivel/hinge hips, balljointed waist, balljointed mid torso, swivel/hinge shoulders w/ balljointed sockets, bicep swivels, double hinged elbows, swivel/ hinge wrists, and a barbell jointed head..

Accessories: Bane build-a-figure torso, collector card, and display stand.

Non-Scalper Price: $25 dollars

The Positives:

* Two-Face isn't 100 percent movie accurate but it's clear who this is and what film he's from. Yeah, he's just a "guy in a suit" when it comes down to it, but the headsculpt and the burned, stained suit jacket really make this an interesting figure. Of course, since this is a fully unique sculpt (so far as I can tell) Harvey has lots of unique textures on his suit, pants, and ever on his dress shirt. The tie and jacket are separate pieces permanently attached over the torso.

* While McFarlane does have a mixture of excellent actor based sculpts and weak sculpts in the DC Multiverse, this one falls kind of in the middle. That being said, I still think it's pretty strong as a good, solid Two-Face headsculpt. It looks like the movie character but maybe like a really good cosplayer of Two-Face and not specifically as Aaron Eckhart. Still, it's solid and I'm really happy with how it turned out, especially the split between the two halves of the face.

* Here's a closer look at Two-Face's burned visage. Yikes! That's some really disturbing paintwork with plenty of visible burned flesh. Hope you weren't planning to eat dinner just now!

* Two-Face comes holding his signature double headed coin. It's not a separate piece but it permanently attached to his fingers. It looks really good, though, and you're not going to lose it this way.

* Harvey's articulation is excellent. He might just be a guy in a suit but he can move with the best of them. He's got a great range of motion and all of his joints work perfectly. Load him up with some weapons from one of the McFarlane weapons packs and you'll be really satisfied with his action poses.

*  As always, McFarlane Toys includes a display stand with each of their releases these days. It's just a simple disc stand with the DC logo on it but it works well and keeps the figure standing upright in most poses.

* A collectible card is also included with a promotional image of Harvey Dent holding up a campaign badge. There's a bio on the back as well. Not as cool as the prop replica coin Mattel included with the Movie Masters Two-Face back in 2008, but still fun.

* Two-Face doesn't have any accessories for him (just the stand and card) but he does come with the torso of the Bane collect to build figure. If you're planning to build Bane you'll definitely need this piece.

The Negatives:

* The look of Two-Face's burned jacket is cool but why isn't there any damage on the right sleeve? There is in the film. I actually looked at some shots of the costume from the film and there should be damage on the sleeves. It just doesn't make sense to have no damage on the sleeves here, so that's a bit of a miss in my book.

Two-Face turned out to be a pretty nice figure. Not perfect, sure, but still a solid release, especially if you're planning to build Bane. The biggest missing element of this figure is a revolver, but that's outside of McFarlane Toys' control (it's due to a ban from Warner Bros.). Still, nice looking figure, great articulation, and a quarter of the build-a-Bane. Not bad and worth a Great rating in my book.

Just FYI, here is a picture of Two-Face carrying the smaller revolver from the McFarlane Toys Accessory Pack #2, released in January. It works perfect with Two-Face and if you have the set, you've already got a great weapon for Harvey in hand.

I've reviewed a few Two-Face toys on the site: "Dual Destruction" Two-Face from Mattel's Batman: Power Attack line, the Pirate Batman and Pirate Two-Face two-pack from Kenner's Legends of Batman line, the Nano Metalfigs Two-Face DC29 from the 10 Pack Figure Collector's Set and Two-Face DC107, and the Rebirth Two-Face from Mattel's DC Multiverse line.

  1. Just needs more scarring on the jacket. The left sleeve shouldn't be clean.

  2. Wait, he doesn't actually come with a gun? That's weird.

    1. He does not. A couple years back Warner Bros. put a ban on including guns as accessories with any of their licensed products, including even items sold directly to the collector's market. That's why McFarlane has been putting out the accessory sets; to make available the accessories they can't include with the figures.

    2. Wow, so even characters who use guns can't have them. Exactly when this ban enacted? I remember Rick Flagg coming with multiple firearms back when Mattel still owned the license. Meanwhile, Marvel still includes guns with their figures (although the retro packaging Hammerhead was conspicuously without a Tommygun, being given just a baseball bat).

    3. Blegh, that other comment was me. I need to make an account here, heh. Post as anonymous accidentally.

    4. I believe the ban was announced in early 2021 and it affected everyone making merchandise based on Warner Bros. properties. McFarlane did have quite a few characters with guns in 2020 and maybe early 2021 (Red Hood, the Grim Knight, Thomas Wayne, the Joker) but after that figures started coming with other weapons.

This definitely affected all companies, even import companies specifically selling directly to collectors, and at first it was implemented really strictly, including for already solicited items. I believe the Sonic Gun accessory from the Mafex DKR Armored Batman was removed (despite it being a sound weapon) and the Mafex Joker lost his revolver with the bang flag sticking out.

Recently we've seen characters like Mister Freeze, Captain Cold, and Heatwave come with their energy weapons, and the DC Direct/ McFarlane Unkillables Red Hood actually has his pistols, probably because he was designed well before the ban and is older product DC Direct was pushing out.
