Action Figure Review: She-Hulk from Marvel Legends Retro Collection: Fantastic Four by Hasbro

Gosh, I've been a way for a couple of days, haven't I? I've been working on reviews for next month's 31 Days of Toy Terror, sure, but your old pal Barbecue has also been under the weather for a couple days and I'm just now finally feeling well enough to sit up and work on a review. How about we take a look at a fairly recent release from Hasbro's Fantastic Four themed Marvel Legends Retro Collection? Yes, it's She-Hulk clad in her Fantastic Four outfit. This is a pretty smart release on Hasbro's part for three reasons: 1. She-Hulk is popular and the majority of her action figures have sold quickly; 2. This is nice brand synergy with the recent release of the Fantastic Four movie as the character is connected to the team; and 3. She-Hulk joined the Fantastic Four at the end of Secret Wars, so this figure can kind of go along with the Secret Wars Retro Collection releases from earlier this year. I actually skipped the Iron Man Retro Collection version of She-Hulk (and now I wish I hadn't) but I do believe this figure is a repaint of that release with a new portrait, new accessories, and more hands. Ready to see if Jennifer Walters' latest release is worth laying down your hard earned green for? Then join me after the break...

The Facts:

Height: 7 1/4ths inches

Articulation: Swivel/hinge ankles, boot swivels, double hinged knees, swivel thighs, ball jointed hips, balljointed mid-torso, swivel/ hinge shoulders, bicep swivels, double hinged elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, and a barbell jointed head.

Accessories: 2 swappable portraits, ponytail, 6 swappable hands, and two dumbbells.

Non-Scalper Price: $25 dollars

Comparison:

* Here's a quick shot of all three Marvel Legends She-Hulk figures I own: The Tatiana Maslany based MCU version (left), this Fantastic Four Retro Collection version (center), and this more modern version from 2021 (right). I really like the 2021 figure with the ripped up outfit as she's much more "Hulk-like" though this new one is the best depiction of the character from the ones I own. She's the tallest and I love her nuclear green skin tone.

The Positives:

* She-Hulk is tall, shapely, and absolutely toned. She's extremely muscular and while she's not just massive and brutish like the Hulk, she still looks like she's got some strength just because of her build (not even factoring in her Gamma radiation imbued powers). She's a simple figure as her Fantastic Four one piece outfit is just painted on. The paint job for the outfit and for her gloves and boots is neat and clean, showing off the Fantastic 4 logo on her chest and her abs.
* Jennifer's portrait is reused from the Iron Man Retro Collection figure, but it's a pretty definitive looking She-Hulk portrait, so there's no reason not to use it again here. She's all smiles, showing off that just because you've been transformed with Gamma radiation and have an insane level of strength doesn't mean you can't have a good time and a positive attitude, too. The printing on the face is clean and her hair is given a dark green coat to bring out the color and detail.

* Here's a shot off She-Hulk's hair from the back so you can see how much hair she has. That's a lot of plastic packed in here! The green highlights really do make it look more impressive, so I'm glad Hasbro added them.

* This might not be She-Hulk's most iconic look but it might be my favorite of the two portraits. With her hair pulled back and a cocky look on her face you can easily tell that She-Hulk is not impressed by your shenanigans. Seriously, she looks like she might do some Shania Twain karaoke after roughing up some bad guys.

* Her ponytail is a separate piece. There's no real benefit to taking it off or anything but it does rotate, so you have an extra point of articulation to pose on her when she's sporting this do.

* She-Hulk has a fantastically articulated body: All pinless joints, double hinged elbows and knees, and and boot and thigh swivels. There aren't that many Marvel women tall enough to use this sculpt so it's not one we see that often. It's excellent, though. She's a solid, durable figure that's a lot of fun to pose in a variety of cheeky ways. Her standard head doesn't have a great range of motion thanks to her hair but the ponytail sporting head has no issues. Change up her hands, utilize the included dumbbells, and you'll get some great poses for your display.

* Six swappable hands are included. Two of them are hidden in the package behind the cardboard insert, so make sure to pull those out before you toss it in the recycling bin. At first, I honestly though that Hasbro included dumbbells but no gripping hands! They actually included six swappable hands though: The grips (hidden), a right hand with a thumb's up gesture, a left hand peace sign, and a pair of fists for when she needs to answer the call of Clobberin' Time since she took the Thing's position for a bit.

* Also included is a set of dumbbells for Jennifer to work out with. I'm guessing these are more for toning than really working out, because I'm pretty sure She-Hulk can lift at least 100 tons. These are cool dumbbells and not something I recall ever seeing in Legends before (though I could be wrong).

This Fantastic Four version of She-Hulk is excellent. She's a very impressive figure with a nice amount of extras. Usually the Retro Collection figures feel very light on extras but Hasbro really did an admirable job here of loading her down with some goodies. She's a Great and a 1/2 figure and definitely one not to sleep on if you have any interest. Hasbro Pulse is now sold out but it looks like a few other Fan Channel retailers like BBTS still have her in stock. Whether you're a She-Hulk fan, a fan of Hulks in general, or you just want the most complete Fantastic Four you can get, she's a worthy addition.

  1. I had this figure for a few weeks. It's really good. I'm not a big fan of She-Hulk or Fantastic Four but it's a well made muscular woman and she looked tall even next to my Masterverse figures. :)

  2. I did the exact same thing with the hands! I was sitting there balancing a dumbbell between her two fingers of her peace hand, which worked and looked pretty cool like she didn't need more than that for the weight, but I was worried it might warp the hand. Then I saw the gripping hands.

  3. Get better soon old chap, I need my enabler to be on form.
