Jazwares seems to put out new models quite frequently, but they also tend to release quite a few repaints/ retools and rereleases. In 2024 they began releasing most straight repacks of popular vehicles with the designation "Armada Edition" on the package and an "A" at the end of the numerical designation. Now, if you see Armada Editions in stores, you'll know what they are. Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Interceptor is a Light Armor Class release and originally came out in 2023, though it's just received an Armada Edition release this year as part of series 8. This is Anakin's yellow Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor and the one that he flew at the beginning of Revenge of the Sith during the Battle of Coruscant. That's where it was destroyed, too. The Positives:
* I really like the look of the Jedi Interceptors, especially Anakin's. The yellow and grey color scheme is fantastic and really eye-catching. It brings to mind the N-1 Naboo Starfighter, the ship Anakin piloted in his first major starship victory. The Micro Galaxy Squadron ships really have impressive sculpts, reminiscent of a higher end model rather than a toy. It's small, sure, but there's some fantastic paint detail, a touch of weathering, and a tampo of the Republic on the port side along with the Open Circle Fleet logo in six different places.
* Here's a look at the top of the ship. The vehicle is very light but feels quite sturdy. It looks incredibly accurate, too. Most of the detail you see is truly sculpted, so you can feel the lines and grooves all over the starship.
* The bottom continues to have plenty of excellent sculpted detail, a touch of weathering, and landing gear that you can flip down. There are two front struts that fold down and one in the back middle.
* The wing tips, or S-foils (I think), can open on the top and bottom. In universe, they're supposed to help with movement and to help move heat away from the engines during intense combat. They look really cool and it's fun to open and close them. They also help to give the ship a design that makes it feel like a forerunner of the Empire's TIE Fighters. That cockpit front window and the wing tips definitely bring to mind Darth Vader's TIE Advance.
*Note* You can see a stand in some of my pictures, like this one to the right. It's actually a generic action figure stand I bought a pack of on Amazon. it doesn't come with the ship!
* The cockpit is nicely sized with a wide viewing canopy and the front segmented viewport. It's really detailed inside, showing off the impressive work of this micro line.

* R2-D2 doesn't move at all, but Anakin is articulated at the hips and shoulders. Both arms and legs are on the same peg, so they swivel in unison. I didn't have any trouble with the articulation on this set as everything moved smoothly on Anakin Skywalker: Jedi
* Anakin fits nicely in the cockpit of the Interceptor while R2-D2 plugs right in to the astromech droid port on the portside wing. It actually fits nicely, unlike the movie versions which make you really question how the heck the astromechs fit inside there.
This is a pretty impressive little model, especially considering the price point on these. I absolutely love the design and color on this one and it's nice that Jazwares is making this one available again. The paintwork is excellent, the sculpt is fantastically detailed, and the figures fit really well. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is a stand of some sort, though it does have functioning landing gear, so it can stand on display. It's really an Epic ship and one I keep picking up and messing around with. I have a couple of the Jedi Interceptors, but this one is my favorite. I really hope they release the Darth Vader one at some point, though. That's a pricy model these days.

The front opening cockpit reminds me of my old Battlestar Galactica Cylon fighter from 1980 (bought it third hand from a kid at school who wasn't allowed to own one either) - surprisingly detailed even back then. This is something I'm glad MM haven't cut corners on, a whole lot of detail for a relatively small sum of money. Keep knocking em out!
ReplyDeleteWas the reason you guys weren't allowed to own those because of the Battlestar Galactica missile incidents from the late 70s?
DeleteThe cost. Star Wars figures were £1.25 - £1.50, tops, and the vehicles were basically birthday or Christmas saves at around £20. So buying something out of the ecosystem, especially an expensive item like Galactica toys (£15 for the raider) was out of the question. We used to club up and get the older kids to buy them for us. Three of us actually had the vaunted Galactica toys, and one even had the legendary Scarab. All of us got thrashed when the obviously expensive contraband was discovered
DeleteAh I meant Jazwares not MM
