I did want them to keep Halloween 2 as canon (as it feels so weird to me to divorce the relationship between Laurie and Michael from the mythos) but the new film was still really, really good. It definitely is more graphic than many previous installments, but it's easily the best Michael Myers has ever looked, Jame Lee Curtis was incredible, and the pacing was pretty good. it does have some weird humor in it, which feels out of place to me at times, and too many characters, but it's definitely worth watching. It seemed to me that its' very existence was pretty much conceived as a deliberate slap in the face to people like myself. They could have easily crafted a brand new movie without going out of their way to omit the others. I found this decision heartbreaking, because I had always hoped for another Halloween film. Many fans of the series were deeply offended by this. From everything I've heard about the new one, it sounds as if they just basically made a more graphic version of H20(in other words, it sounds as if it's more about Laurie Strode and how 'empowered' she is today, rather than about the Bogeyman.)That's another reason I love Halloween 5...1989 was a very special time in the pop culture...one of the very final years that anybody dared to just do what they wanted....since then, I'm not sure that anybody does anything without worrying that someone, somewhere, might mock them. It's easily the Halloween film I've seen the least, probably tied with the remake Halloween 2. What did you think of the 2018 Halloween?Barbecue17https://www.blogger.com/profile/11169946891265569135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8438156728877167677.post-46293075094647031552019-03-01T18:51:35.718-05:002019-03-01T18:51:35.718-05:00Halloween 5 is just about the ONLY film to ever re...Halloween 5 is just about the ONLY film to ever recreate the aura and substance of the original. This one takes Michael Myers back to being the quintessential stalker....the figure that's always lurking on the periphery, always silently waiting, never acting until HE is ready....but when he does, acting with brutish finality. Halloween 2 captured some of this....4 captured a bit of it...but 5 is the only subsequent chapter to actually give full realization to Myers as stalker, as hunter, as Bogeyman in the Closet...Halloween 5 is among the finest films of its' kind ever made.greg garnernoreply@blogger.com
